SOURCE: Belt tensioner. Socket size? Or is there some other way to release the tentioner so I can replace my belts.

Forget trying to get at it from the top, go underneath. Take off the plastic shroud inside the passenger side fender. It's held to the frame by three bolts (10mm?) and a couple of quick fasteners. Once it's out of the way you can see and work fairly easily. I did not need to jack. Locate the flat pulley, it's obviously the tensioner. Loosen, but do not remove, the nut in the center of the pulley. Then locate the bolt head on the end/tip of the bracket that the pulley is mounted to. That is the adjuster. Loosening that bolt loosens the belt and vice versa. The power steering belt tensioner is very similar. Enjoy yourself!!

Look under the car, passenger side. Follow the fuel/emmisions lines from the fuel tank. They will pass under a protective cover that comes off with a 10mm socket. The fuel filter is under the plate.

How to replace a brake light on a 2007 nissan maxima

  1. First thing you need to do is open the trunk.
  2. Remove the cargo net hooks. You do this by pulling the center out then pull the entire hook out.
  3. Now pull the carpet towards the front of the trunk (back by the rear light) back a little ways exposing.
  4. Now you will see some wire harness clips on the back of the trunk.
  5. Remove them to expose the three 10mm bolts.
  6. Remove the three 10mm bolts.
  7. Now you pull the whole light assembly out and this will expose the sockets that will allow you to change the bulbs. Unlike many cars where you have a bulb socket accessible from the trunk with this car the entire assembly must be removed.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

I am trying to change the thermostat in my 1989 nissan maxima. im not sure if i put it in the top or bottom hose. please help. i need to find a diagram but am having trouble locating one.

Follow the upper radiator hose to the engine block. There should be a roundish metal housing at the end of it. Put a bowl underneath to catch any fluid and take off the bolts(try a 10mm socket or wrench) that hold the thermostat housing to the head. Then just pull out the thermostat and scrape off the old gasket. Put the new thermostat on spring-side toward engine, just like the old one. Make sure to use a new gasket! Then push the housing back over it and tighten the bolts. Add any anti-freeze necessary and your done!

I am getting an error code for cam shaft sensors on a 2002 Nissan max. Is is complicated to go under the hood and replace them?

It is not difficult. It is located on the timing cover on the passenger side of the engine. You'll see a wire harness going to a hall effect sensor with a 10mm bolt. They should cost around $80.

However, there was also a Recall in 2003, ID# 46615 involving a bad solder joint on the crank and cam sensor control boards. You can read about it here:

Best wishes

Well, it is usually cheaper then having a shop do it for you. But it will require you to have some tools. In this case probable a 10mm and 5/8 spark plug socket and 6 inch extension and ratchet.

Other than that, you should be good to go.
