Why must i discharge the air conditioning refridgerant prior to removal of the heater core on a 2003 c230 mercedes 1.8l coupe.


The reason in why you must evacuate the a/c system with an a/c machine before you can remove the heater core is because the evaporator is located inside of the heater core box assembly. So before the heater core box assembly can be removed the a/c system must be evacuated then you can disconnect the a/c lines that go through the firewall to the evaporator.

Orifice tube install


how did you discount the compressor?
is it turning?
is the fan blowing
is the compressor clutch closed.? and the compressor shaft spinning at full speed.>?

the evap core is covered in all FSM for this car. and and at alldata.com
its not a tube its an expansion VALVe

ill first list the exp, valve steps (then the harder part)
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Discharge the air conditioning system.
  3. Remove the evaporator assembly from the vehicle.
  4. Remove the clamps to separate the upper and lower halves.
  5. Using backup wrenches, remove the expansion valve from the evaporator.
now the part about #3 list


  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Discharge the air conditioning system.
  3. Remove the glove compartment, as required.
  4. Disconnect all electrical wiring and cables from the blower case.
  5. Remove the blower case retaining bolts and case assembly.
  6. Disconnect and plug the inlet and outlet lines to the evaporator.
  7. Remove the upper and lower housing retaining bolts and remove the evaporator assembly from the vehicle.
  8. Separate the case housing and remove the evaporator core.

Leaking on the passenger side, next to centre console. Dropping water level in so that it needs refilling almost daily 0.5 litre+. How do you fix it or can get a quote.


your heater core is leaking, need to replace it or u can put a hose connector to by-pass heater, this is done for temporary repair only. under hood look for two coolant hoses that go into firewall of veh. and install a hose connector that is same outside diameter of the inside of hoses & install two clamps to keep pressure from coming out.

I have a 2000 jaguar s-type Climate control does work


Jaguar S-type 2000 fabrication year is equiped with:
1. Control system = Automatic temperature control
2. System layout = Single evaporator - dual zone
3. Refrigerant circuit type = Expansion valve
General information:
1. System control
1.1. Compressor operation controlled by refrigerant pressure sensor.
1.2. Compressor will not operate if refrigerant level is low!
1.3. System incorporates an A/C evaporator temperature sensor.
1.4. System incorporates an engine coolant heater regulator valve.
1.5. A/C control module incorporates self-diagnosis function.
1.6. The A/C control module fault memory can only be accessed and erased using diagnostic equipment connected to the Data Link Connector (DLC). See picture below:

1.8. Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will iluminate if certain ECM faults are recorded.
1.9. The ECM fault memory can only be accessed and erased using diagnostic equipment connected to the Data Link Connector (DLC).

These are on of the hardest heater cores in the industry to replace. A typical garage will get between $800.00 and $1200.00 to replace, the dealer will get $1600.00 because you have to completely remove the steering column the dash, discharge the A/C system reomve the heater box, split it and replace the core. The job is so labor intensive you would be crazy not to replace the A/C evaporator at the same time. This is not a job for an amature or ever a class "B" tech. leave this one to the Pro's.

Where exactly is the orifice tube located at on a 1996 (DOHC v6)?


it's in the high pressure liquid line.

A/C Evaporator Core Orifice The A/C evaporator core orifice (19D990) should be replaced whenever the A/C compressor (19703) is replaced for lack of performance (internal damage). The A/C evaporator core orifice, located in the condenser to evaporator tube (19835), cannot be serviced in detail as a component of the line. If replacement is necessary, follow the procedure outlined for Liquid Line Removal and Installation. An orifice tube replacement service kit may be used as an optional service procedure. Refer to Section 12-00 for information regarding the use of an A/C Evaporator Core Orifice Replacement Kit E5VY-19D695-A.

A/C Evaporator Core Orifice Replacement Kit Installation
  1. Discharge A/C refrigerant system. Refer to System Discharging and Recovery as outlined.
  1. Remove condenser to evaporator tube (19835) from vehicle.
  1. Locate A/C evaporator core orifice (19D990) by three indentations or a circular recess in metal portion of the condenser to evaporator tube.

  1. Note angular position of ends of condenser to evaporator tube so that it can be reassembled in correct position.
  1. Cut a 63.5 mm (2.5 inch) section from condenser to evaporator tube at A/C evaporator core orifice location. Do not cut closer than 25.4 mm (1 inch) from start of a bend in tube.

  1. Remove contaminants from the two pieces of the condenser to evaporator tube.
  1. NOTE: The inlet half of the condenser to evaporator tube will be positioned against the A/C evaporator core orifice tabs when correctly assembled.

    Lubricate fitting with clean refrigerant oil and assemble orifice tube kit (with A/C evaporator core orifice installed) to condenser to evaporator tube. Make sure flow direction arrow is pointing toward evaporator end of the condenser to evaporator tube, and taper of each compressor ring is toward compression nut.

Sounds like your evaporator is freezing up.There are several things that could cause this like low freon charge,restricted orifice tube,ambient air temp sensor,evaporator discharge air temp sensor,AC pressure transducer sensor.
You might want to get someone experienced on that vehicle to take a look at it.

I have 1998 cadillac STS and the heater blows cold air only


this problem is caused by a defective air temp control blend door motor, this door and actuator motor is located inside the dash between the heater core and the AC evaporator core, it shifts airflow through the heater core or the AC core or mixes or blends the two for the desired temp at the outlets, the motor will have to be replaced. This is a very common issue.

1993 taurus heater core replacement guide


This is a big job which involves discharging and removing parts of the A/C system as well as removing parts of the dash. I had the core done on a 94 Sable years ago and it was a very labor intensive and expensive job. Here are some instructions I found for a 94 Taurus which should be the same thing or similiar, but I don't guarantee that. Please note that these instructions were not tested by me and may contain errors or be incomplete in some way. For example "remove instrument panel" sounds simple but in reality is a process in itself requiring the removal of many screws. Naturally you would have to recharge the A/C and refill the coolant when done.

Removal

1. Remove instrument panel and lay it on front seat.
2. Remove A/C evaporator housing as outlined.
3. Remove vacuum source line from heater dash panel seal (18529).
4. Remove heater dash panel seal from heater core tubes (refer to Heater Case Assembly).
5. Remove four heater core access cover retaining screws and remove heater core cover (18B300) from A/C evaporator housing.
6. Lift heater core and seals from A/C evaporator housing.

Installation

1. Transfer three foam core seals to new heater core.
2. Install heater core and seals into A/C evaporator housing.
3. Position heater core cover on A/C evaporator housing. Install four retaining screws.
4. Install heater dash panel seal on heater core tubes.
5. Install vacuum source line through heater dash panel seal.
6. Install A/C evaporator housing into vehicle as outlined.
7. Reinstall dashboard components.
