Question about 2005 Dodge Magnum

1 Answer

Someone please help!!!

I recently Blew the engine in my 05 Dodge Magnum 5.7 Hemi due to over heating I have 65k so under war. Before new engine was installed the old engine ran great w/ lots of power. After new engine (block, pistons, crank, and heads) had been installed there was a huge loss in power along with gas knock coming from the left side of motor (possibly from #3-5 cylinder) I have replaced the plugs, and wires, I had the timing re-checked along with having the exhaust removed from car and driven,(no block in exhaust system) problem continues to happen, Chrysler states there is no error code nor no check engine lights coming on, if I start off in DRIVE with med acceleration it seems engine is very sluggish with a really bad gas knock as if the engine is chocking itself out, engine runs either rich or lean dealer states computer and timing are correct, I have a K&N filter and magna flow mufflers(no effect on old motor). Car seems to run better when shifting through gears keeping RPMs around 3000. Chrysler district mgr stated to dealer they will no longer warr. No more man hours on car to find what the problem is. So I hope someone can give me guidance on what to do.

05 Dodge Magnum w/ 5.7 Hemi When I take off from a start with medium to heavy acceleration the engine seems to run RICH from the start and as it gets up to speed the engine seems to switch from RICH to LEAN and I get either a bad Gas knock or a bad ignition knock. Does anybody know anything about

    Thank you so much,

Two shops, 4 mechanics, multiple computers and Chrysler refusing to continue diagnosing the problem with my new engine (long block) plus 3 weeks of getting pissed off at stupid people. You came up with the fix. I went down to AutoZone and purchased the All Data program and looked up the ignition wiring diagram for the Hemi 5.7 and seen that 2 out of 4 wires on # 5 and 7 cylinder backwards, I switched them back around and all my problems are behind me. So believe you me I can’t wait until tomorrow to explain to both services writers you need to stop reading computers and start being a mechanic.

stop patting yourself so hard on the back, honest mistakes are made by good technicians, it is caused by the mind set that the engine was just replaced and lots of new parts, they were blinded by the light so to speak, give the poor guys a break, and the service writers are just that writers, they may ior may not know a darn thing about cars, they are paper pushers. So u have never made a dumb mistake, guess not by what you have written.

Knocking, what about knock sensor, has it been checked or replaced? Have you tried contacting Chrysler direct at their owner relation number in manual & discussing it with them?

Have seen egr valve cause performance problems without setting any codes..and if egr is not working properly, can cause a spark knock..oxygen sensors as well..also make sure no injector or coil connectors are miswired to other cylinders

  • Gas sensor re circulation sensor "A" Circuit High.
  • Replace the EGR and the solenoid (come with it) and this will fix the problem.

I blew the engine in my 05 magnum w/ 5.7 hemi new engine is slugg

there is a break in period, but there is no reason for you engine to be sluggish, if that would be the reason all new cars would run sluggish. if you have arcing that mean that your not running on all cylinders your dealer should heck your car

2005 Dodge Magnum w/out hemi stalling

I have a 2005 Magnum and was also having this problem. Stalled out a few times and continued to idle rough and feel like it was going to die when I would slow down. At times it would feel like I would get a hesitation and then a surge. Engine light would go on for a day or so, then go out for a few days. First time I took it in, the dealership told me that it was a broken seal (I don't know where), but they replaced it and it continued to happen. The second time I took it to a mom & pop shop, and they told me that it was the oxygen sensor/altimeter, replaced it (only a $35 part), and I haven't had a problem since. That was 6 months ago. Hope this helps...
