Question about 2005 Jeep Liberty

1 Answer

Where is the location of the glow plugs on the 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD. I am logging a fault code of P1263. Can you tell me if it has to do with the #2 Glow plug like everything online says and what all is needed to correct problem? Laurie

Now does the code P1263 have to do with the #2 glow plug.  I was told it was the EGR valve so I changed that and the check engine light is still on and now they are saying it has to do with the #2 Glow plug.  Do I have to change glow plug only or do I have to replace anything else?

Thank you. I have done a lot of research on this an you have not told me anything new except where the glow plugs are. But thank you for your time.

Hello Motoxgirl185

The glow plugs of a Jeep liberty is found at the side where you have your intake or to where the tube coming from the air filter goes to. You will have to remove this tube to gain access to the glow plugs.

Once removed, at the intake side you should see electrical cables or a wiring harness in which they terminate at the engine at 4 points. Once you remove the wiring harness you should be able to access the glow plugs. As far as I know, the Jeep Diesel has 4 cylinders, therefore it should have 4 glow plugs. If yours has more, the number of the plugs would be equal to the number of cylinders you have.

To be sure you may want to have the dealer or the garage have them pick up the error code. There are others out there that get the same reading but may be actually be the EGR or a glow plug issue. Some scanners may not be able to pick up the correct error code. I have done a little research and there are a few who had some different readings.

If it is an EGR issue it could be the valve may be blocked and just needs cleaning thus causing the error or the EGR valve may be broken and needs fixing or replacement. There were a number of Jeep owners that had issues with EGR had varied causes from the PCM to the fuel system. See link below for reference.

Normally failed EGR would mean that you may fail emission tests as it helps lessen the harmful gas from the engine.
