    Hi

If it comes on immediately after you have just changed your oil and filter on the first start up, give it a few seconds because your system has to refill with oil. Your filter is empty, and it takes a moment for it to get up to the correct pressure. Most cars have the oil pressure sending unit affixed where the filter attaches.

If your light stays on at this point, shut your car off and look for leaks. The two place that are most likely guilty are the drain plug and the oil filter. If there are no leaks, check your oil level. You or someone else may have forgotten to refill your car with oil after it was drained.

If you have oil and your dip stick shows that you are significantly overfilled, let your car set a minute or two and try again. Sometimes old sediment can get stirred up and cover the screen near your oil pump. If you start it again and the light stays on, listen to your engine if you can hear the lifters clacking, turn your car off and have it towed to a mechanic. Or, if you prefer, pull your oil pan and replace your oil pump yourself. If the lifters are quiet, you probably need to replace your oil pressure sending unit.

If you are driving down the highway and your oil light suddenly just lights up, pull to the shoulder. Listen for a second to your engine and then shut it off. Check your oil. If it is low and you have oil, fill it up. If it is either not low or you don't have oil, what did your engine sound like just before you shut it off? If your lifters were clacking, give it a minute or two and restart your engine. If it sounds quiet, drive to the nearest mechanic and have it checked out and/or refilled with oil if you were low.

Well have u made sure the oil filter has the antidrainback valve that will trap the oil in the filter, thus providing a small reservoir of oil for initial starting.have u tried to make sure the oil pump doesnt have a blown out gasket thus losing oil pressure and oil back into the pan.

High temp low oil pressure light comes on after driving for a few minutes, then off when engine at driving rpm. At stop light (idle or low rpm) light comes back on. Normal driving it goes out.

You need to find out why you have low oil pressure. It is normal that as engine rpm's increase, the oil pressure will rise- the oil pump is moving oil faster. Even though your light goes out, you could still have critically low oil pressure. There should be sufficient pressure at idle to keep the light off. The light will come on when your oil pressure is almost nil- I believe for some it's as low as 8 psi. Normally, oil pressure at idle is specified anywhere from 15 to 40 psi. You would have to check specifications for your Expedition. To verify oil pressure, hook up a mechanical gauge at the oil pressure sending unit on the engine block. Check with a local shop.

The causes run from easy, simple to budget busting ruin. Low oil level, wrong grade oil, real old oil, oil leaks, internal oil leaks, worn oil pump, worn crankshaft bearings. It was pretty common on older very high mileage cars to have a fluttering oil light at stops and idle. It was time for a rebuild, or time to look for another car.

Oil light on after engine warm-up on idle

this means a mechanical gauge test is required to check actual pressure warm idling if low below 20 psi then the oil pressure pump relief is stuck open or engine bearing are worn

Why do oil light come on after replaceing oil sending unit on 2005 dodge carvan

The engine produces oil pressure from the resistance(clearance ) between the bearings and crankshaft and the sending unit lets you know when there is no pressure. These switches ground the light in the dash around 5 psi. So as the engine gets warmer then the oil gets thinner with large amounts of clearance pressure drops. Test system with mechanical unit normal hot idle pressure should be 30-45 psi if low raise idle speed comes up then engine bearings are worn.

Hi guys...my yaris is running rich, has poor gas mileage (360km on a full tank). and very slow and choppy idle (idles like a really old car) these are the things i have done so far : change air and fu

Do the following:
1. Clean the throttle body from inside.
2. Adjust the spark plugs gap to 1.00 mm.
3. Check fuel pump pressure. (44 Psi - 49 psi)
4. Remove the negative battery terminal for 5 minutes.
5. Connect the battery terminal.
6. Check the engine oil level and coolant level.
NOTE: Before starting the engine shut off all lights and loads for example room light, blower, radio, parking light etc.
7. Start the engine and hold the throttle at 3000 rpm till radiator fan comes on.
8. After the fan comes on release the throttle pedal and let it idle for 10 minutes.

Oil light flickers at idle in gear 1983 cadillac devill 4.1

This is because the oil pump is not pumping enough oil. It is either very low on oil, or the oil pump is going out. The light comes on when the oil pressure drops below 5 psi. This is very low. It should run about 25-30 psi at an idle.
Please rate 4 thumbs up, if this helps! Thanks for using Fixya.com

Problem with it is the oil light comes on when at a stop sign or at a red light but then goes off when you get going. But it's not leaking any oil, has had oil changes regularly

It's most likely one of two things: Your engine could be low enough on oil pressure when idling that the light is coming on for that exact reason or your oil pressure sensing switch could be faulty and misreading the actual oil pressure and erroneously turning on the light. The only real way to tell is to have someone remove the oil pressure sensing switch and temporarily install a mechanical test gauge in its place to check the actual oil pressure available. If it's low then there is an internal engine problem of some sort. If the pressure is about 10 psi or higher at an idle and 30 psi plus at 2500 rpm then your sender is at fault.

Running at 5 psi when idling. Oil check light comes on when stopped.

Remove oil pan and clean oil pick-up tube. Put an AC delco oil filter back on it as aftermarket filters will give problems. Check pressure with a mechanical gauge.
