Where is starter relay located?

I don't think there was a relay in 1988. Starter wire (small diameter wire) goes directly to the ignition switch.

Installed brand new starter, battery fully charged, and still wont crank. It starts when I kick start it. 1988 nissan pathfinder. What else could be the problem? Relay switch? Or ignition? Please help

Check the ignition switch, and the wiring to the starter solenoid. Get someone to turn the key to the crank (start) position and check for voltage at the starter solinoid. Check the starter relay and all fuses.

How to remove starter motor from 1988 nissan pathfinder? It is so cluttered there, is there an easy way?

DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST.

Basically, remove the 2 bolts from the bell housing (pretty easy).
But the starter won't have enough clearance to drop down, so it has to be pulled over the cross member that holds the motor mounts, through to the front.

The electrical harness has a bolt that connects it to the engine block. This bolt has to be removed in order to give you enough slack to pull the starter all the way forward. Also, you have to remove the right tie rod and get it out of the way so you can pull the starter through.
Then, disconnect the two wires from the starter and reverse the process with your new starter.

Have a nice day, and thank you for using Fixya.

I have a 1988 Nissan Sentra. When I turn the key

Your problem is definately not a relay. It sounds as if the starter contact in your ignition switch is bad. The solution is to replace the ignition switch.

Were is the starter motor in a nissan pulsarq 1988 hatch

On most Nissans, the starter-motor is located on the right side of the engine when your standing looking into the engine bay from the front of the car, it should be a fairly large cylindrically shaped object, 5-6 inches in diameter, about the same color as the engine block, and has a smaller (2 inch approx) cylindric object attached to it, this is the solenoid, which engages the motor.

If you are sure this is the problem, removal is quite easy, usually 2-4 hex bolts holding it in place, to test it, connect the car's own battery to the terminals on the solenoid and motor, and if it doesn't turn, it's shot. Repair is fairly inexpensive, but replacement might be. Good luck!

Bad starter

Buy a new one after having it checked out off the truck if it doesn't work out of the truck. If it works out of the truck but not in the truck, check the starter harness.
