It's most likely your throwout bearing which pushes on your clutch assembly when you push the pedal in.

Does this mean a new clutch? Is this a big job as I need the car for work

  • Justin Scott Apr 22, 2014

It's the same ammount of labor to replace either so replacing the clutch is a great idea while it's apart.

Whirring noise when put in gear

Transmission problem. Could be planetary gears, pump, converter, or clutch bands, making the noise. No one just replaces these parts. Rebuild or replace the transmission.

My Clutch makes a whirring noise like a clockwork toy when I put my foot on the clutch.

Check the hydraulic system for clutch, could be the clutch fluid is low. How far down do you need to push clutch before you can put it in gear ?

I have a 97 civic vtec and im having serious problems with the clutch. i recently replaced the master cylinder because it was weeping fluid and the clutch was not dis-engaging properly so i replaced it...

if you are saying that there is a whirring noise whenever the clutch is engaged, it may be one of the two causes: it's either you have a loose spline hub on the clutch shaft OR there is misalignment on the engine and transmission resulting to the forward and backward movement of the clutch disk on the shaft..
you cannot get the car into gear.. hmhm, that is called a dragging clutch and it is usually experienced when the flywheel and pressure plate do not fully release the clutch disk in its disengaged positions.. Dragging clutch may be due to: 1. excessive clutch pedal free play or travel 2. improper adjustmen of clutch fingers or release levers 3. warped pressure plate, flywheel (which needs to be brought at the machine shop), or clutch disk 4. loose or worn out clutch disk facings 5. loose or worn out clutch linkage parts 6. accumulation of dust in the clutch 7. engine idling is too fast 8. tight/ burred splines 9. worn out pilot bearing or bushing 10. muisaligned beel housing

My car is a 94 325i manual. it goes into gears much better when it's off but when it's on it will not shift into gears and if i force it i hear a horrible grinding noise.

you have 2 choices either the clutch is not disengageing properly or the gearbox is shot.put the car in first, put the clutch pedal down, then start the car and if its trying to pull away before you take you foot of the clutch you have you answer....if its the clutch cable you can adjust it..

My truck makes a high-pitched whirring noise when i put the clutch in. i feel like there is something wrong with the transmission. how [do i check transmission fluid?

the high pitch noise leads me to believe a problem with the hyudraulic clutch. Have you checked the level? also with manuals you dont have tranny fluid, you have gear oil; which is very unlikely that needs changing

1999 honda prelude manual transmission isn't disengaging all the way when i shift, sometimes locking the shifter in gear or not allowing me to up or down shift. I know my master and slave cylinders need to...

This depends as dose it do it when cold or hot.
2nd when you push in pedal and put in gear dose it go in clean or hard to select 3rd can you hear a grinding noise when pushing in pedal and noise goes
when you take you foot off the clutch pedal IF so then its the thrust bearing on clutch REPLACE ALL .4th if you push in clutch pedal and select a gear and let the clutch out if drive right out (replace)

There is a whizzing noise when changing gear Audi a3 55 reg!

if its only when you put your foot on the clutch it could be a release bearing fault, does it do it when you are not moving and put your foot on the clutch(engine running of course)

Whining

hi these boxes tended to be a bit noisey anyway but a simple test for the release bearing and first motion shaft is easy first make sure g/box oil level is ok
start engine ,take your foot off the clutch peddle compleatly you have a whine, put your foot on the peddleVERYlightlynoise should change ,if the noise is more of a rattle than a whine it is coming from the clutch release bearing if it a definate whine it is either the spigot bearing in the flywheel or the first motion shaft
