Water pumps are made by a component maker to the cars technical specifications so there will be after market pumps that will fit your vehicle . Try auto spares shops or on line at e-bay

I have an old Mac 2000, and need to change the pump. Can a pump with higher flow rate (100l/hr) instead of original 50l/Hr be used without a problem?

Hi, The higher rate pump should work fine without any problems. Please give feedback at crossflowspeed@hotmail.co.uk Thanks, Malcolm Campbell.

Hello don thanks for the good info. ive checked for any kind of external leaks, and there are none. i also checked the carpeting, and its not wet. lastly i put the defroster on,and nothing on the windsh

I'm not Don (obviously), and I am not privy to you original question, but I think it must concern a mystery coolant leak, based upon your statements here. You have done well in eliminating many possible sources of leaks. I will point out, however, that is the there is a leak from the water pump weep hole, it often goes unnoticed as it is in a very inaccessible location, it usually only leaks when the vehicle is running at at temperature, and the leak is usually small enough that the coolant will quite often evaporate on the block before it ever hit s the road surface. Since you said you flushed and filled the system for the first time 6 months ago and it is already rusty colored, I would seriously suspect the water pump since it uses the coolant as it lubricant for the shaft bearing. Just my two cents worth (for what it worth) (lol).

The mechanic says it's about $800 to do the water pump in an 04 tiburon. is this a typical price to pay?

It's kind of an arbitrary question. It depends on what type of mechanic, what kind of shop he works for, and your geographic location. That being said, it's actually a fair price for a reputable mechanic. However, I'd be a little leery if it's a guy working out of an old chicken coop. (Anyone working out of an old chicken coop...please don't take that personally...I'm sure yours is a very nice chicken coop.) Thanks for using Fixya.

Repeat water pump failure. 1994 Buick Lesabre.original pump had bearing failure. 1st new pump shaft failure."no longer carried in stores". 2nd pump bearing failure. and now my 3rd pump starting...

If your car requires dex cool, than that is what you need to use. If not then don't. Different coolant types each have different lubricants for the pump. Have you checked the belt tension? Changed hoses?Made sure pump is receiving water?

Pulley broke off powersteering pump

Unfortunately, if you don't have a machine shop, you will have to replace the entire power steering pump instead of just the pulley.

But you should also check ALL the pulleys to make sure that something else was not damaged when your pulley came off. Check for any wobble in the shafts, especially the water pump. If you have any wobble then that component should be replaced also.

Good Luck!

It is leaking around the seal. The shop I took it to stated it'd be cheaper & easier to just replace the pump instead of just the seal. They quoted me a little over $300 for the job. How can I do this...

Are you talking about the fuel pump? If you are, then they are wrong. You can go to a parts store and get the ring that seals the pump for under twenty dollars. The water pump's seal is inexpensive too, but if you ever have the water pump off on a high mileage vehicle, it's good to replace it anyway.

1997 buick lesabre steering locks up & can't turn left & whining

very possible that the pump has failed (seized ) internally so get it checked out at an accredited power steering specialist shop
if it does not produce pressure then the steering will lock or be extremely heavy to turn

Is it the water pump???

There is a short bypass hose on the back of the pump that is notorious for leaking.

Your car has a vehicle speed sensor int he transmission, it does not use a speedo cable.

1998 plymouth voyager3.3l has leak at water pump behind pulley

First of all, changing thermostat will not fix your water pump leak. Obviously defective pump or install. Be sure to take a closer look, in case it's a loose hose in the area. Leaking from behind pulley, usually calls for new pump. What I would do though, is take it back to original repair shop & question them about any warranty that may apply. Some have 1 yr. some have limited lifetime etc. If you can obtain a copy of work done, the part number on the pump should give you what you need to call (or shop can call) and inquire about that particular part number as far as warranty goes. (I'd make the call myself, ahead of time, so I know.) That way, perhaps the shop who originally installed it may feel some kind of obligation to replace it at a reduced fee, as in labor only. ($27 for new pump) . Be nice, play a little dumb, it may help, and if they want you to pay the whole shot over again, go elsewhere for estimate.

I have the same problem my olsmobile is overheating, we replace the thermostate, water, pump radiador, and still the same . if somebody knows how to fix this problem please let us know thank you and god...

I have have the same problem with my 1999 Oldsmobile Silhouette. I solved the problem by adding more coolant. It has a slow leak some where that I have not been able to find. When the coolant gets low the temp. gauge heats up very quickly but then goes down quickly when you rev the engine. Adding coolant to the reservoir has fixed the problem until it gets low again.
