Question about 2006 Renault Modus 1.4

Vehicle does not start

I replaced the motor. now the car wont start,the motor swings over,it does have spark and fuel to where the fuel line plugs into the injector rail. i checked all the sensors, they all have an ohm reading except the front sensor on the block above the heat sensor. i replaced all the spark plugs. the car gives an airbag fault when i turn the ignition on.

An ohm reading is good but what you need is a voltage reading at the injectors to make them work . Check that the cam/crank shaft position sensors are connected and the air gap is correct

sounds like the dreaded renault immobiliser ,in which case its dealer only as software encrypted.whats happening is the immobiliser is stopping it from starting when key is in start position cranking but it will go with a bump as starter motor key position not activated .try a wire from battery to small connector on starter motor .if it starts which i think it will then you know what to do ...old fashioned way with a push button.but are you getting prepared to lay the golden egg ???just in case

hi is there fuel getting to engine?any vapour coming out exhaust?sometimes glow plugs not working can cause this.try a squirt of easy start into air filter.NOT MUCH!!READ INSTRUCTIONS.HIGHLY FLAMMABLE.then start car for about 10secs.get this from car accessorie shops.if it fires on this its highly likely glowplugs not working or fuel pumptiming out.its hard to say without seeing the car

Sounds like you'll need to check to see if it is getting spark first. To do this, take one of the spark plugs out, and while it's OUT of the vehicle, connect it to the proper spark plug wire from the car. Get an insulated pair of pliers or gloves and hold the spark tip close to a piece of metal while someone else cranks the motor over. Watch for a spark, if there is no spark there, try replacing the spark plugs first. If there's still no spark after replacing the plugs, then move on to replacing the distributor cap OR the coil packs(it has one or the other).

Whilst i was driving the bakkie just lost power and suddenly cut out,thereafter it wont start again,it just swing and swing with a sound of no fuel.idid put in fuel and also replaced now new plug...


Not knowing what vehicle, It may be a bad fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator. Measure the fuel pressure at the connection between supply line and fuel rail. Since you are a DIY, I highly recommend you invest in a Repair manual. Auto parts stores may have, filepeep.com may have, or manualslib.com

is the engine check light on
do you have enough pressure at the fuel rail is the pump running when u swing the engine
is the MAP sensor and crank angle sensor faulty

Battery, Starter or Something else?


There are three things ANY vehicle needs to start! Fuel, Spark, Air!
I would start with spark! it would be easier to check spark if you buy an extra spark plug! Pull the spark plug wires off one at a time and plug the extra spark plug into it. Set the wire and plug down away from moving parts! have someone crank the engine over once or twice. if the plug sparks, plug it back in and move to the next one! If it still has problems with a newer battery, I would rule out alternator! Follow the fuel line in the engine and look for a little screw on plastic cap on the fuel line! This is a pressure valve. After turning over the engine a few times, take a pen or small screwdriver and press this valve in. Fuel should spray out pretty good! If it has low pressure, fuel pump may be bad!

You need fuel,air and a spark for your motor to run.First determine if you have a spark or fuel,this will half yourproblem,if there is no spark then its an ignition fault and if the plugs are not getting wet then its a fuel problem.Start from the plugs and work back keep me posted ok.Check for spark first just remove a plug and fit it on the lead hold the plus to earth[with an insulated pliers to prevent a shock]get a buddy to swing her over and observe for a spark at theplug contacts.

1998 nissan 200sx 1.6l car wont start has fuel and fire


what you need to check is are you getting any spark at the spark plugs, to do this, unplug one of your spark plug wires at the spark plug, find a screwdriver that will fit inside the spark plug wire housing, make sure your screwdriver has a insulated or non conductive handle, hold the steel shank of the screwdriver about 1/8"-1/4" from your exhaust manifold and have someone crank the engine, just for a second or two, look to see if there is spark jumping from the screwdriver shank to the manifold, if there is, then you eclectically is probably OK.
second you need to check your fuel, you really should have a fuel pressure gage but for now lets just do a preliminary check.
find your fuel line going to the intake manifold (steel tubing 5/16"-3/8" diameter) you need to disconnect the line somewhere between the fuel pump and the intake manifold. you'll need a can.
hold the can under the fuel line so fuel doesn't go everywhere, then have someone crank the engine, if it is an electric fuel pump you wont need any help, all you'll need to do is turn the key on and it should start pumping fuel, the fuel discharge should be very noticeable, it will really start coming out fast and furious.
If you don't have fuel coming from the line or very little, your fuel pump or fuel filter is probably bad.
alot of vehicles will stop running on just a plugged up fuel filter, but normally it will give you some warning, like your engine will start to miss or loss of power on hill or accelerations. If you haven't experienced any problems until now, i doubt its the filter.
see if you can check those two items out and let me know what you find
buy the way, alot of the newer vehicles on the road today use special connection clips to connect fuel lines, you may need a tool to get the line disconnected, there little plastic tools in different sizes depending on the size of your fuel line. if you need one and your doing this yourself, borrow one or at the automotive house ask for a fuel line quick disconnect tool. i don't think there alot of money. make sure your car isn't out of gas.

Car wont start


Fuel delivery must be confirmed with a fuel pressure gauge on this vehicle. Disconnecting the fuel line and cranking the engine to see fuel shooting out does not confirm pressure, it only confirms fuel delivery. Remember you need both fuel delivery and pressure. On this vehicle if the psi is off by just one number that's enough to keep it from starting. Also replacing the coil and rotor (as you stated) does not confirm that spark is reaching the plugs. Confirm that both spark and adequate fuel pressure are reaching ALL the spark plugs.
