SOURCE: Check Engine light flashes and car vibrates

The only scenario I am familiar with that causes a blinking or flashing Check Engine Light is misfires. Your description of the car shaking is another sign of possible misfires as well. There could be other issues, it would be helpful to know what codes are getting set. However, with the flashing check engine light and the shaking of the car the first thing I would do, if it hasnt been done in a while, is a tune up. Replace the plugs to start. I believe you have a distributorless ignition meaning that you have coil packs instead of a distributor.

Your coil pack sits on top of the plugs. Look to the left side of the engine, just at the bottom of the valve cover and you will see (assuming you have the 4.0L 6-cylinder engine) a series of three humps. Those three humps is your coil packs and there should be four bolts that hold it in. Take out those four bolts, pry up the coil pack and then you will have access to replace the spark plugs.

While your at it, Id replace the fuel filter, air filter and other general maintenance/tune up items like that.

SOURCE: Check engine light flashing

Take it by an auto parts store like Auto Zone or O'Reilly Auto Parts and they can connect a reader to your car's computer and give you the codes. Write down the codes exactly as they say, and then find out what that code means for your model car on the internet.

Engine vibration and flashing check engine light

The flashing check engine light and the symptom you described indicate you have an engine misfire. The most common problem is the coils. You have two options. You can either scan the engine computer for trouble codes that will help you identify or narrow down the possibilities. I'm going to bet that there is one or more of the following codes. P0301, P0302, P0303, and/or P0304. The other option is to get a spark tester and test each coil one at a time to see which one is not working.

Lexus ES300 Shakes/Vibrates At 45 MPH

Major transmission problem. That's what the flashing Check Engine light means.

If the Check Engine light is on all the time, it means there is a "fault code" stored in the computer. Take it to an auto parts store (like Auto Zone) and ask them to read the codes to see what it says. They should do it for free. If they won't, go to another auto parts store.

If the check engine light is flashing, there is a serious problem that is affecting the performance of the engine.
You need to get the computer scanned for trouble codes to proceed.
