Question about 1997 Subaru Impreza

My impreza 97 is great through the gears up 4 or 5 then

Gets to over 100 and it spluters a bit power on and off bit miss firing me thinks or is it just lag on turbo ..

97 impreza. Power windows don't work. Replaced relays and drivers control. Am I missing something? Is there a fuse or circuit breaker hiding. I have power to the switch.


I don't think it is possible to see hat is wrong, when not sending next to the car. My way of working is checking how fat the voltage goes in the circuit. I use a multimeter and a cabling diagram for that. (and there is also a colour code for the cabling) In that way you end on the place where the power stops.Or even when the power comes to the motor and it does not turn, I know it is a motor.

Sometimes it is just a lose contact or a bad ground (earth or return)

I must say I enjoyed reading your post, you sound very nice. The problem sounds like possibly the C-V joints may need attention. They will cause a vibration and a grinding noise very noticeable at slow speeds. I hope this helps with your situation and hope you have a wonderful day.

Bmw miss fireing and spluters


Starting with the basics, as long as there are no warning lights on the dash you can be rest easier knowing that possibility of it being an expensive repair are slim. Normally on these cars if its a serious engine fault the DME would have recorded the fault and most commonly a light would have appeared! If this is the case, then i would start with the spark plugs!

To gain access to the spark plugs, remove the engine cover (2x 10mm nuts), you might have to remove the oil filler cap in order to get the cover off. Pull off the H.T leads and finally to your plugs. Check the electrode and the gap, the state of the plug, does it have oil around it etc. With the spark plugs off be careful not to drop anything into the chambers!

Hopefully this should cure the problem and is prob the most cheapest fix that you can do yourself! So it makes sense to start with that!

I would say to check the timing it may be retarded which would lessen the power. also you didnt say if it miss fires there could be a number of causes for the lack of power.

Just got for the boot. I'm willing to bet that the axle is factory (garage can look for green paint). IF it is... you've got to work REAAALLY hard to do damage. Mine was popping for months and there was only a tiny tiny bit of wear on the joint. If it's factory, KEEP THE AXLE. It'll run you about $15 per boot for good ones. Try to find neoprene ones, they'll last longer, and do NOT get split-boots.

And FYI.... Subarus, for whatever reason, CHEW them suckers up. So get used to it. But, for my Bu... it's a small price to pay for a great car!
