Question about Dodge Caravan

1991 dodge dakota sport 5.2 Alternator connector large one burnt up. changed alternator anyway. new (rebuilt) 120 amp autozone alternator not charging verified by autozone. could it be sbec (computer)? or could it be the little black box with 4 connections on top rear of alternator? tried 2 batteries both at 100% charge. still runs down battery to virtually nothing.

1991 Dodge Dakota electrical problem I have replaced Alternator still will not charge where do I start from here

When you replaced the alternator, did you also replace the voltage regulator? I have read that on this truck, the voltage regulator is internal to the ECU and is located on the firewall near the ignition coil. You may be able to install a separate, dedicated voltage regulator available at your local auto parts store. Please note that you may have to rewire from the ECU connector to the stand-alone voltage regulator. Good luck.

I have 1991 dodge dakota replaced alternator and checked fuses still not charging battery what else could it be

you need to check you battery chances are it needs to be replaced most battery shops can check for you. if your battery is old it may have one or several bad cells and will not hold a charge. also could be a short that is draining battery while car is off

I had a 1992 dakota for 18.5 years

Have you put an amp meter in one of the battery cables,
to see if you have more than 30 Milli-Amps?

Only the computer & radio clock stay alive all night

Your alternator. Rebuilt how? Are the diodes leaking
& killing your battery?

What Codes do you have?
I will look in my 92 manual for you

Disconnect the alternator overnight

Next start pulling fuses with that meter in there, until
you find no current draw large enough to run a battery down

The ignition switch may be bad & powering the alternator field
all night. Have to check wiring diagrams for that

Charging system not working. Major problem with the 1991 Dodge Dakota 5.2L 4x4 Sport charging system not working, major drain on the battery. Searched for short. Any ideas? Already replaced alt. and...

Check output from alternator with a voltmeter it should be between 13.8 to 14.7 if so then check at battery if it is not at least 13.8 minimum to be charging then the big wire on back of alternator is not getting back to the battery through ammeter gauge in dash.
I have hooked a wire from back of alternator straight to the plus[+] side of battery to fix that issue.
Sometimes ammeter gauge burns out breaking the circuit from the alternator back to the battery.

I have a 1991 dodge dakota the battery is not charging with new alternator

could be that the alternator is not getting any voltage to energize the field. also could be an issue with cables between the battery and the alternator. just a couple of things to check.

We need an online view of how to change an alternator pulley for our 1993 dakota

You'll probably need a pulley puller for this job.Actually if you purchase the pulley from an Autozone they will lend you the tool for free.Deposit is small and is returned as soon as you return the tool. Why exactly are you changing the pulley, this is very rare, unless a large object struck the pulley. The alternator itself(bearings etc.) is usually the problem. Take the belt off and make sure the pulley is turning freely and most of all quietly. Thanks, Dana
