Shifter will only go into drive and shift will not go into park

Could just be a linkage adjustment or binding, however the parking pawl in the trans can become damaged, especially if you don't use the ebrake when parking but instead always use the park position in trans.

I put a 95 s10 blazer trans in my 94 fullsize blazer can it be done and work

If it is binding it may just need the pinch bolt loosened and repositioned to eliminate the binding condition.

If it has to do with Park or Neutral start switch- that is on the column independent of linkage.

If the gear shift indication is off, that is a cable link to the dashboard beneath the trim at the bottom of the dash.

Automatic gear shift in 94 toyota tercel stuck

what is stuck?

the linkage or the cable from the shifter to the trans.?

block the tires so the car can not roll away...
open the hood and remove the cable from the shifter on the transmission.
see if you can manualy move the shifter on the trans.
if that moves... you may need to replace the cable (shift linkage)

Just replaced shift linkage cable in 97 chevy 4x4 1500 truck. shift lever will go through all gears when manually moved by hand, but shifter on column won't go into 1 or 2. Shifter seems to bottom out on...

Hi, Well those shift cables have a slight adjustment at the trans. When I replaced the cable on my 96 i had to adjust it slightly. But before you adjust it make sure that the cable is routed the same way that it came out, if the cable is kinked or bent in any place it can cause it to bind and not go all the way down. Hope that helps

Takes 10 minutes for car to drive forward after placed in drive .No problem in reverse .

First, check your Trans fluid level. The next 3 possibilities are the shifter, shift cable and the valve body.

Have a helper shift the car while you watch the cable end move on the Trans. Or disconnect the cable at the Trans and shift it without the engine running. The action should be smooth and immediate. It is possible for the cable to bind and then release.

If the shifter is binding it will also affect the cable movement. You can try to spray WD40 or a similar moisture fighting lubricate on the cable and inside the shifter mechanism.

If this does not help you are going to need to look at the Trans. About the only thing cheap you can try is a Trans filter change and new Trans fluid. The valve body is the most accessible part of the Trans.

Hopefully your problems will be simple and the shift cable will take care of it. Good Luck on this.

My 1999 Chevy Blazer wont go into park

secure vehicle with chocks and set parking brake under vehicle check on drivers side of transmission selector control look at cable for binding or damage the cable snaps into place if looks good remove cable and try to put selector shifter into park[ if it goes in and stays than look back under vehicle and try to match up selector and cable.not reaching and trans selector in park adjust cable and reconnect try shifter for park] -if shifter doesnt go into park than check on dash plastic selector lock may b worn or damaged, if above is fine and selector/shifter is not problem than problem is internal inside transmission park rod damaged or broke good luck and thanks for using fixya
