Try replacing your brake light switch that is located at the top of the brake pedal arm. It might work if you wiggle or shake the switch but most likely you will have to replace the switch. good luck leave comment.

It sounds like master cyl. is drawing in air causing prob. also another test would bee too bleed out and get pedal back, now step on pedal and hold firmly and see if pedal creeps near floor indicating innternal leaking in master cyl. also have some one pump bakes slowly aand look for air bubbles in brake res. after bleed out indicating master cyl. is drawing air upon release of pedal.

Brake fluid leaking

Look at the insides of the wheels from under the car and look for a wet wheel. Check around the rear of the brake master cylinder for signs of leakage. Sometimes the fluid will leak from the brake master cylinder into the brake vacuum booster. You would need to remove the master and check for fluid in the booster.

Clutch master cylinder low on fluid is it a sign off a bigger problem???

Only if it has a leak somewhere. Not that many places to check. Sometimes the master will leak, and you will have brake fluid below the clutch pedal.
A single steel line runs from master to the slave cylinder, down on the transmission bell housing. Check the line and the slave cylinder for leaks. If the slave is leaking, probably need a new one. And same for the master cylinder.
Fill the reservoir and check clutch operation. If any air got in the line to the slave, you will have to bleed the slave at the bleeder valve there. They are bled just like brakes, using the clutch pedal.

lose the fittings at the master cylinder, you should have two of them , one for the front brakes and one for the rear, get a friend to push the brake pedal ( not too hard, be careful they may spay all over) ; and see if any fluid is coming out with his pedal down tight the fittings back with the pedal down,so you don't get any air in the lines. If nothing comes out you have a bad master cylinder.

There are no brakes on my 1997 jeep cherokee the brakes go all the way to the floor already replaced the brake pads

Hi:
Your problem is related to the master cylinder, wheel cylinders, or the brake lines. First check the brake fluid level. Check the inside of all four wheels and look for signs of brake fluid leakage. If you don't see any leaks, and the brake fluid reservoir is full, then you most likely have a bad brake master cylinder. If you do find a leak at any wheel, and fluid level is down, then concentrate your repair efforts in the area of the leak.

Makes sense. Have you chked for a leak or defective brake master cylinder or even if there is brake fluid in the reservoir?

Pulling up to an intersection and the brakes went out. I can only build a small amount of pressure when I pump them, no brakes when I go backwards. It has brake fluid. Maybe a master cylinder?

Hello. You could have a leak in any one brake caliper, or a bad master cylinder, leading to air in your brake fluid. You can start by looking behind wheels and around master cylinder for any signs of brake fluid leaks, it does not wash off easily. If fluid was changed recently and your brake parts are all fine you will at least need to bleed all the calipers to get rid of that deadly brake line air.

It doesn't take much of a leak to cause all this trouble, as it also lets air into your brake fluid. Once it does the problems you mentioned occur.

These problems can lead to disaster of course so at this point you don't want to take chances on the road, it happened to me once, yikes!

The Abs sign is on during driving what is wrong with it

If the brake warning light comes on when you apply the brakes, or is on continuously, it means that hydraulic pressure has been lost in one side of the brake system or that the fluid level in the master cylinder is dangerously low (due to a leak somewhere in the brake system). In either case, the fluid level in the master cylinder should be checked. Adding brake fluid to the master cylinder reservoir may temporarily solve the problem. But if there's a leak, the new fluid will soon be lost and the warning light will come back on.
Brake fluid leaks are serious because they may cause the brakes to fail! So avoid driving the vehicle until the system can be inspected to determine what's wrong. Leaks can occur in brake hoses, brake lines, disc brake calipers, drum brake wheel cylinders or the master cylinder itself. Wet spots at hose or line connections would indicate a leak that needs to be fixed.
Leaking brake fluid can also contaminate the brake linings, causing them to slip or grab. The uneven braking action that results may cause the vehicle to veer to one side when the brakes are applied. Brake shoes or pads that have been contaminated with brake fluid cannot be dried out and must be replaced.
