SOURCE: popping noise when i turn

From the title above, I can't determine what year/make/model of truck/car you're asking about. So, my answer is somewhat generic and may not be applicable.

A popping noises when turning almost always indicates a worn or damaged outer CV joint. To verify this condition, place the vehicle in reverse, crank the steering wheel to one side and drive the vehicle backwards in a circle. If the noise gets louder, it confirms the diagnosis and the need for a new CV joint or replacement shaft assembly.

Look at your steering linkage and check for noticeable damage (loose nuts/bolts or damaged boots). Also, check the bolts/rivet holding your crossmember in place (I've seen these work lose and under pressure from turning one way or another will shift and pop). If your vehicle is a 4X4, it could be inner tie-rod (drag link) or other associated linkage.

Feel free to post some additional info about your problem and vehicle and I'll try to narrow the field.

Hope this helps and good luck.

SOURCE: Front End Noise, Chev Cavalier

It sounds like you have a bad c v or constant velocity joint. Look under the car next to the wheel look for a rubber accordian type unit, if the rubber is torn or lose the grease has escaped and damaged the joint. You can replace it yourself, but if your not mechanically inclined would say take it to a shop.

CV Joint went out. since it gets worse when you turn right it is most likely an inside drivers side CV joint or the out side passenger side. The popping sounds was probably the dust boot popping from pressure build up which should make it simple to locate since you just need to identify the boot with a tear in it.

Car making popping sound on left front when putting on brakes and turning to the right

Could be a bent control arm - or - if the popping is a rotational noise (not just one pop, but many - when you drive faster, the popping increases, slower, the popping decreases) Then it is a worn CV joint. CV Driveshaft $65 at NAPA

The driver side wheel has a popping noise when i turn the wheel to the left

Usually the CV Joint pops when worn making turns so check that out. The bad one will pop when only putting a load on it. Here an example, say the left side is bad and you make a right turn. It will not make the popping noise only unless both sides are bad

Popping noise coming from passenger side when turning

The popping sound is a bad CV joint. The part is not all that expensive, figure on maybe around $100, the labor is the issue! Always is. If you are mechanically inclined you can replace it yourself, no special tools are needed.

Popping noise when i turn my 2001 f150 2wd to the right

If it is a pop pop pop sound then it could be your cv axle, instead of just 1 pop. These can be bought cheaply from any discount auto parts store or autozone. There are some cv axle repair shops out there also. Some times all you need is the boots replaced and greased up. Hope this helps.

My father had this problem on a car years ago and I have see others have it also . The poping noise is often for a ball joint and then the wheel just falls off. Have the ball joints inspected for excessive wear
