Have you tried to adjust the idle itself to bring it down? The adjustment should be right on the throttle body where the gas pedal is connected to the throttle body. There should be a screw that will allow you to adjust the idle up or down. If you loosen the screw it will take your idle down

Elantra 2004(Diesel, done 136,000km) Leak in Turbo Charger


A turbocharger can leak. Some of the gaskets might be shot and need to be replaced or a hose might need to be replaced. If the turbocharger itself is leaking and not a gasket then the turbo housing is probably cracked. If you get the turbocharger replaced it should last a good 20 years or so. The only thing that usually wears out on turbochargers are gaskets and thrust bearings.

The Turbo Charger does not seem to engage .I was led to believe that after around 30 miles per hr. it would be like haveing a passing gear. Oh yes the car is a 1984 Nercedes SD 300 series Desiel.


The turbo charger has more to do with rpms than road speed.The turbo uses exhaust gas leaving the engine to push more fresh air into the engine thus creating higher compression and more horse power.You should feel some boost above 1500 rpms if everything is working properly.If not then you should have the system checked by a dealer or a good diesel shop.Good Luck!

Whats the make-up of the r?otating assembly


It all depends on how much pressure you intend to run the turbo or supercharger at. If you won't exceed around 12 psi, you can keep the engine stock without damaging or shortening the engine life too much. If you wanna go bigger than that, you might need to upgrade the pistons and crank. And as for compression, either a charger or turbo will do the same thing as far as the compression is concerned, so if compression is too high for a turbo, it's too high for a charger also. And I'd start checking more for upgrading the fuel system than the engine assembly parts, cause you will need more fuel in the engine to compensate for more air coming in due to turbo or charger way before you need to strengthen the engine for the extra power.

The Garrett turbo-charger is notorious for leaking oil into the intercooler, and, into the emissions system. This happens because the bearing wears in the turbine assembly, and dumps lubricating/cooling oil into the combustion and intercooler system. It also ruins all of the rubber hoses that come in contact with the oil.

A result of this, after thousands of miles of driving: Your catalytic converter is clogged. The backpressure from the clogged exhaust increases the manifold temperature to cherry hot!

When I had my Volvo service and sales business, I lost money on only one Volvo; a turbo-charged 1988 wagon! A friend of mine who made his living salvaging Volvos had similar experiences with turbo-charged 240's and 740's. I hate to break the news to you my friend, but you will need to spend lots of money on that vehicle.

Trust me, do not try to fix it as it's a black hole---$700-900 for the rebuilt turbo ($250 for the rebuild kit), $200-300 for the catalytic converter and on and on! When I bought that vehicle from the original owner, It had a stack of repair receipts an inch thick!

The only recommendation, if you must keep and drive the car: remove the turbo-charger, intercooler, and all attendant hoses. Replace the air assembly with one from a normally aspirated B230F, and keep the airmass you just installed. Replace the catalytic converter with a good used one if you can find it.

2003 escape idling to high, exhaust pipes turning orange red, not cataylic

Is your vehicle a turbo diesel? or if it's petrol, again does it have a turbo?.... The turbo can often cause the effect that your explaining, regarding the orange glow from the exhaust manifold.... To give any more advice, I'll need more info from you....Example: do you live at a high altitude?.....The type of engine?....Any modifications bolted on?.... When did the idling become too high, was anything done to the carburation around that time?
