probably not fuel filter . probably going to have to remove the upper intake and replace the fuel injector spider(fuel inj assebly) if it is droping fuel pressure it is leaking into the upper manifold

real comon starting problem for these is moisture in the cap and rotor and plug wires. replace cap, rotor, and wires. while you have the cap and rotor off check the two vent holles in the base of the distributer to see if the screens are plugged. be careful with the srews that hold the cap on the distibuters are plastic and will break.

If the pressure is slow to rise, you should consider changing the fuel filter if it has not been done in the past 30,000 miles.
Next, disconnect a spark plug and check for spark while engine is cranking. Use a spark tester or old spark plug grounded to the engine block.
Let me know.

Sounds like your injector has failed. Unless you're cranking or running the engine, the injector should not be allowing gas into the throttle body. The injector is pulsed by the ECU at a duty cycle to regulate total amount at any given time, but just pouring in - bad...

1988 toyota camry 2.0 turns over but won't start. Car has been driving like a champ and one morning wouldn't start. Turns over fine but won't fire. Tested for spark by removing spark plugs...

Fuel pressure at idle is normally 30-35psi. Start by taking the gas cap off, and putting it back on. That will De-pressurize the fuel system. Also, make sure you have gas in the car. I have seen gauges on these cars read wrong. I hope this helps.

I changed my 1986 Toyota pickup engine, when it was all done i tried to turn it on and the gas pump wasn't pumping enough gas so i bought a new one and installed it, apparently now the pump has to much...

1986 is it fuel injected or carburator? Ill assume it fuel injected. New engine? Too much fuel pressure?
If its fuel injected is not going to be too much fuel pressure. There is a fuel pressure regulator that regulated the pressure.Because its a replaced engine what is the firing order? There will be 2 of them 1342 and 1432, You'll need to check the timing and the firing order. Bring the engine to top dead center, use the mark on the front pulley. take spark plug# 1 out.Is the piston up? Top dead center is the piston up and crank timing mark on zero( 0). remove distributor cap is it at a position to fire # sparkplug wire to cylinder? If not youll need to set it there. Because you are stating it shakes alot you not in the right firing order. let me know

97 jimmy runs when you pour gas into throttle body, fuel pumps is putting out 55 to 56 psi. but will not pickup the gas from the injectors, fuel manifold psi is 55 to 56psi. 1997 4.3 vortec engine

If the 8th letter of the VIN # is W which i bet it is than your fuel pressure is to low.

This engine uses a CPI unit to deliver fuel to the cylinders. The CPI unit consists of a central injector that feeds fuel to the poppet valve that are right above the intake valves. The poppet valves require high fuel pressure in order to open and deliver fuel to the cylinders at start up.

The reason why it starts and runs if you add a little gas through the throttle body is that once the vehicle is running the intake is under vacuum. The poppets can open with less fuel pressure in a vacuum. This is a real common scenario with these style injection systems.

A new good quality fuel pump (a/c delco or delphi are good pumps) and your fuel pressure should be back into spec of 58 psi or more and the vehicle should fire right up. Make sure you replace the fuel filter when you replace the pump.

87 s 10 well not run it is not getting gas to the injected

Make sure fuel pump is cylcing, you sould hear pump when you turn key on. Check fuel filter and relay for fuel pump. If still won't start try banging tank hard 4 or 5 times with key on and see if you hear pump cycle. If that works fuel pump needs replacement. Also try pouring some gas in intake to see if it fires up.

CAR WONT START

If the car fired after pouring gas into the engine, then you should check your fuel pump, listen when you turn on the key, if you hear the fuel pump start and stop, then check your fuel pressure, all fuel injected vehicles have fuel pressure regulators, if your fuel pump isnt pushing enough pressure to the regulator the car will not start, and if it does start it wont operate properly, and may even leave you stranded.. If your fuel pressure is low, check the fuel filter, dirty filters restrict pressure, and are ALOT cheeper to replace than a fuel pump!

I have a cadallic escadale. It will turn over but wont start.

The fuel pressure should be 60 to 65psi in your system with the engine not running and fuel line primed, (ignition key's to the run position). Once engine is running the fuel pressure should drop by 5psi, change the fuel filter and recheck the fuel pressure at the shredder valve. it's known for the fuel pump to fail when the gas tank runs low or out of gas, the pump will end up burning it self out since the gas is what keeps the electric fuel pump cooled. The other thing to is putting gas through the top of the throttle body to start the engine on the SEFI is a NO NO, well a BIG NO NO. it's been know for the gas in the intake to catch fire and burn up the poppet valve in the injection system causing the replacement of the fuel injection system. Keep me posted and good luck, be gald to help you get your truck running again for the july 4th. OH and it was not mentioned but did the fuel filter get replaced???

Won't hold fuel pressure

Check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve, there should be 60,PSI to 65,PSI for the poppet injectors to work. If the pressure is correct then there is a good chance that the Spider injection system may have gone bad. Recap. Check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve to make sure the Fuel pump is not going bad. There is a valve at the fuel pump that holds the residual pressure in the system, try cycling the ignition three times. Turn the ignition to the run position for 5 seconds and turn it off and do it again for 3 cycles to pressurize the fuel line and see if it starts. If it does not start then check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve. Make sure you have the proper pressure to activate the injector system. If not then get the injector system check for bad wire harness and see if you can smell gas leaking. Oh and the easiest thing to do is change the fuel filter too. Good luck and keep me posted and if you get a chance get the ECM scanned at Auto Zone for free and look for any DTC codes if any have it cleared. Good luck and keep me posted
