If the battery explodes on you, you won't be a happy camper. If this is on an automobile, there's seldom over two wires on the negative side; one goes to the frame or motor. Another might go to the starter for a better connection since there's a lot of current needed to crank the engine.

It is important on negative battery cables that you connect the cable from the battery to the engine and from the battery to the car body, this ensures ground connections for chassis electrical systems, do you mean you have a split cable, small wire, short, not connected? if so, connect it to the closest body connection you have. recheck system.

I would have the starter tested. Also check to see if the motor is turning freely, by turning the crankshaft pulley, just to make sure the motor isn't locked up.

When not running the engine for a week, the battery dies. When I jump start it, engine will start cranking very slow and pickup speed before it starts running.

it seems like the battery is going. clean battery terminals, also the grounding to the body (engine block, transmission, etc.) all should be shiny cleaned. suggest you go to autozone (or other auto parts) for a free battery & alternator tests.

My 77 Chevy c30 has no power. Jumped started it and drove it home. I turned it off then tried to restart it. No power no lights. nothing. Battery is good. An u help will be appreciated.

If the battery is good you will need to follow flow. Test light is the easiest to use. First hook light to ground and touch pos terminal, lights good next touch pos battery cable end, lights good. Next follow pos cable to starter pos terminal, lights good. Next hook test light to bat pos teminal, touch neg terminal, lights good. Then touch engine block, lights good ground. Next move test light clamp back to ground/neg side and touch alt pos terminal, lights good.if all that tests good, if all good move inside and check for power at ign switch pos term if at any time you dont find power you have wiring issue that needs to be addressed. Let me know what you find. Russ

How do I hook up this unit Two wires or four

Almost all car batteries have 2 pos and 2 neg. More precisely, 1 pos post and 1 side connector, 1 neg post and 1 neg side connector. You only usually use use one set or the other depending on what connectors are on the end of your cables. You can connect something else to the side posts if you need to, but generally only pair is used.

Battery hisses when charging battery

Is this battery the type that has the removable tops? If so, check the water level in each cell. Use distilled water to fill the cells to appropriate levels. Be careful of over-flow. Battery acid is very corrosive. Other considerations; battery is being over-charged, battery is worn and will not hold a charge. Auto Zone and Advance Auto will check/test a battery for you.
The negative wires go to ground. Has there been add-ons to the electrical system? Clean the Pos and Neg terminals and cables.

The car will not run and when i turn the ignition it only clicks. I tried jump starting it but it won't do anything. When i turn the lights on their powerful and not dim a t all i bought a new battery two...

You are going to have to put a new battery in, or charge the battery in it now up to11-13 volts. The computer is not getting voltage, and I suspect that the battery cables, possibly the neg cable is corroded inside the clamp and not allowing enough voltage to get to the starter or the computer. Take the neg and pos cable clamps off and using a piece of sandpaper or emery cloth clean the inside of the clamps, and the outside of the battery pole. re-assemble and try to charge the battery up. The jump start should work now, but be careful that you have the correct pole to pole as a reversal would destroy the diodes in your alternator.

Battery in my truck shows +12 and post shows -12.

are you hooking the meter up backwards ?
have you recently charged the battery from a " dead " state ? if so you may have charged the battery to its reverse polarity. To correct this, completely drain the battery by hooking a headlamp or something like that to the battery, wait until the battery is completely drained and recharge with putting the RED clamp on POSS. and the BLACK clamp on NEG.
