Do you hear pump cycle (hum) when you turn key to on position?
Take air intake hose of front of throttle body & spray WD-40 inside throttle body with plate open for a couple of seconds, then see if it will start & run for a second or 2. If it fires up for a short time, it is fuel related problem. Perhaps autoparts store lends or rents fuel pressure gauges, which will confirm if pump is working or not.

If you can prob into the gray wire going back to the fuel pump it is located in the wire harness along the drivers frame rail you should see were it connects to the top of the tank.it should have voltage for 2 secondes with the key on and voltage while cranking over the engine should be 12 volts .also can you hear the pump running. if not try to bang on the fuel tank.also under the dog house on the fuel line to the intake there is a shrader valve that you can hook up a fuel pressure gauge the pressure should be at least 55psi. i hope this helps.

99' GMC van "sputters" or stalls around 2k RPM

Usually the failure of the regulator results in a fuel leak either externally where it would be seen or internally where the engine wouldn't run. If the filter hasn't been changed in a while it should be changed. Also, the spark might be bouncing around the wires or cap. I've even seen it bounce out of the coil. That would sound like a clicking noise.

2001 GMC Safari does not start unless starting fluid is added to once it starts I must apply my foot on the gas peddle it boggles down a little then will stay on once I release the gas pedal the van stalls...

Better have the fuel pressure checked for starters. Even though the pump comes on, your fuel pressure might be too low. Lots of GM vehicles are finicky about proper fuel pressure, especially at start up. It could be a weak pump or failed fuel pressure regulator-a pressure test will sort it all out.

DO'ES THE VAN TURN OVER ? DO'ES THE VAN HAVE THE FUEL PUMP RUN LONG ENOUGH TO BUILD FUEL PRESSURE?IF YOUR FUEL PUMP AND STARTER ARE WORKING THEN CHECK FOR FIRE TO THE PLUGS. YOU MAY NEED TO GET THE CODES READ TO FIND THE PROBLEM IF YOU HAVE FUEL AND FIRE.ONCE YOU GET THE STORED CODES,REPLACE THE SENDER THAT CAUSED THE CODE OR REPAIR THE WIREING TO IT.

Check your spark plugs. That could be one of the reasons. Or are you sure you purchased the proper Fuel pump?

ya these motors need tons of fuel pressure so if you have a pressure tester test the fuel pressure prior to the fuel filter and see if it is atleast 25 psi if not replace pump with new or rebuild all the luck to you with current project
