SOURCE: replacing front rotor

after removing the wheel &caliper depending on rust build up you may need to hit the rotor between the wheel studs this may take some time after removal check for rust build up on hub remove rust with hammer, sanding&scraping put some anti seize lube around hub making sure no rust is caught in between depending if you are replacing the pads you have to push the caliper piston back with a large pair of chanel lock pliers or suitable tool,then you can reassemble.thanx from schleck

YOU DO NOT NEED TO PULL AXLES HUBS, WOW remove the two torque bolts holding the caliper braket, grab hold of the rotor "make sure e brake is off" simpley wiggle and pull it falls right of just as the front would the e brake uses the inside of the rotor like a drum brake so thats why it needs to be off very easy

SOURCE: one brake rotor gets very hot after 30 miles

This is most likely caused by the caliper sticking making the brake pads continuously rub the rotor. I would recommend changing the caliper. If that does not fix your problem the next step is the master cylinder not releasing the brake caliper. If this is the case it will need to be replaced.

The minimum should be on the rotors, you get a brand new brake system, try it with a new rotor and pads, buy a better one

lordFord's answer was arrogant and absolutely useless. Brake rotor thickness specifications are dependent upon the Year/Make/Model of the vehicle, it has nothing to do with your "state/province" or "common sense." Most brake rotors have the minimum thickness spec. stamped on the rotor itself. The service department of the dealership for whatever brand of vehicle you have, will be able to provide the spec. to you as well. A visual inspection may point to obvious signs such as scoring, cracks or pitting, and a vibration when applying the brakes, could be a warped rotor.

The minimum rotor specs is stamped on the rotor and is different with each manufacture which sets the standard. Measure the thickness with a micro-meter. Replace the rotor if it is below or near the minimum or has been grooved by worn pads.

All are different, on the back side of the brake rotor , will have a stamp with (MIN) and some number after it the will be the minimum spec thickness for the brake rotor.

How do I remove the rotor on my 1995 dodge 2500 4x4? My problem in the center cap holding it.


Brake Disc (Rotor) REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Raise and safely support the front of the truck with jackstands. Remove the front wheel.
  2. Remove the caliper assembly and support it to the frame with a piece of wire without disconnecting the brake fluid hose.
  3. Remove the hub and rotor assembly.
  4. Install the rotor in the reverse order of removal, and adjust the wheel bearing as outlined in Section 1.
INSPECTION If the rotor is deeply scarred or has shallow cracks, it may be refinished on a disc brake rotor lathe. Also, if the lateral run-out exceeds 0.010 in. (0.25mm) within a 6 in. (152mm) radius when measured with a dial indicator, with the stylus 1 in. (25mm) in from the edge of the rotor, the rotor should be refinished or replaced. A maximum of 0.020 in. (0.5mm) of material may be removed equally from each friction surface of the rotor. If the damage cannot be corrected when the rotor has been machined to the minimum thickness shown on the rotor, it should be replaced. The finished braking surfaces of the rotor must be parallel within 0.007 in. (0.178mm) and lateral run-out must not be more than 0.003 in. (0.076mm) on the inboard surface in a 5 in. (127mm) radius. 350z Rotors need to be cut at only 10K miles


Your rotors should be fine but it also depends on who turned the rotors and how they were done.Considering the dealer replaced the pads they probably used a metallic pad which have been known to be a noisy .Id suggest you have a repair shop resurface your rotors again and install some ceramic brake pads.
