It souds like the same problem i had a few months ago, have your timing belt checked, i am most certainly sure that it is the belt, usualy the belt breaks, or slips off the pulley.......hope this is helpful.

i have a 2001 toyota corolla you can crank it it starts right up for 3 secvonds then dies if you cut the key back off and turn it back on it cranks for 3 more seconds i checked the fuel relay its good not sure if the crank positiong sensor could be a problem
