The battery light came on and next day it died and had to get a jump, replaced the battery but the light is back on. A light that says "service battery charge system" is on now. What does this mean?

your car has an alternator that is supposed to charge the battery. The light comes on when it doesn't. Most likely your alternator needs to be fixed, though it could simply be a loose fan belt.

"Battery charge system" means "Alternator" and the associated wiring.

2012 Grand Caravan. How do I turn the battery light off after installing a new battery?

Test the alternator. The battery light is for the charging system. Once the charging system is working with the engine running, the light should go off. If your light stays on with engine running, the alternator may need service or replacement.

To test the charging system, just put a voltmeter on the battery with engine running. The voltmeter should register at least 13.5 volts- alternator is charging. If you only show battery voltage with engine running, like 12.2-12.8 volts, the alternator or charging system is not working. The battery light should be on to signify this.

Battery charging system light is on but system is charging

have the alternator bench tested as it may have a faulty rectifier pack in it
charge lights basically work by when not running the current flows from the battery to the alternator through the light
when the alternator starts to charge it puts a reverse current back through the light in opposition to the battery and so the light goes out
if the light stays on then that means that the current from the alternator is alternating and the battery is keeping it on.

Driving down the road the battery light came on,

Your charging system stopped working (that's what the light means if it comes on while the engine is running), and now the battery is run down too low. Take your alternator off and have it tested. You could or should also have the battery tested, but it will need to be charged up first on a battery charger. If it is 3 years old or more, you may need a new battery. First have the alternator tested at a parts store- it is a free service.

2008 Grand Prix always started fine. This morning I turned the key and the starter clicked, the trunk opened, the horn beeped then the "battery system failure" light appeared. I opened the hood,...

Huh??? You are using the dome lamp to measure the output of the alternator on an engine that won't even start??? I would like to see how that trick works! YOUR BATTERY IS LOW- plain and simple! The REASON your battery is low is a whole other problem that needs to be figured out. It could be that the battery itself is bad and will not accept a charge, or it could be that your charging system has a problem and cannot properly charge the battery (alternator, cables, connections, voltage regulator, etc.).

Please note that the light is telling you battery SYSTEM failure. This means that the battery and its supporting system (A.K.A. Charging System) needs to be tested/diagnosed. Nobody online can tell you exactly what the CAUSE of the problem is without TESTING the battery and charging system.

Please also note that the vehicle we are talking about is equipped with a PassKey III (PK3) security system. If you keep fooling around with it while there is low battery voltage, the system can lock out the starter and fuel system where you will have to reprogram your computer to get it started.

Your alternator as you might know is what charges your battery. You can Have a amp meter put on it to test the amp out put. Almost any battery shop or les swab tires, etc will put there meter on it and test the out put to make sure it is putting out the right amps, at least 12.5 THEY WILL DO THIS FOR FREE. What does it mean when the battery light comes on?

Hello, This means that your charging system is not working properly. This keeps the battery charged. If is not fixed soon your battery will die and the car will quit or not start. In most cases the problem is the alternator. Feel free to ask any more question and Ill do my best to help.

A battery light came, on and it stated check charging system what does this mean?

This light means that most likely your alternator has stopped functioning, and your battery is no longer being charged. Typically this means that your alternator needs to be replaced.
