The switch behind the brake lever is probably pushed out of the way...have a look underneath the footwell and push the brakes with your the lever for a small switch and see if it is being pressed by the brake lever or not.

How do i fix my Chevy Cobalt. Floor shifter stays stuck in park postion. I am pressing brake pedal and pushing the shifter button.

have a helper. tell him to press brake pedal. you come to back of vehicle and see if the brake lights work when helper press the pedal. if lights don't work the tail light fuse has blown. so you cant take from park. and on some brands if horn fuse blown you cant take from park.

1994sidekick stuck in park

check to see if the brake lights come on when you press brake pedal. if they don't it is stuck in park because your brake light switch doesn't work and the swich also tells the shifter lock to unlock so you can move shifter. so If no brake lights fix brake light switch and that will fix it. the switch is located at the top of brake pedal

Car brack light on all the time#

hi, this is a common problem what you need to do is get on the floor by the foot pedals and look closely at the brake pedal then follow the brake pedal right to the top of the pedal then just before it goes through the bulk head into the engine you will see a switch atatched to the base of the brake pedal it will have 2 or 3 wires going to it now you may find the brake switch has come away from the pedal if so place it back where it should be no if the brake switch is still atatched then the chances are the switch has wore causing the gap between the switch and the pedal to be to big now you need to either replace the switch or build up the part on the brake pedal that presses the switch with something like sellotape to make the gap smaller so the switch is pressed when you press the brake pedal now this wont be a permanent fix but will get your brake lights working again.

The switch itself is not expensive so your best option would be to replace the brake light switch.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

My break lights don't come on when I press the break pedal. The bulbs, fuse, emergency flashers and turn signals work fine. Other suggestions for what is wrong and how to fix? Thanks

you may have a bad brake pedal switch. When you press the brake pedal, the switch is not activating the lights. If everything else is working, it's most likely your brake pedal switch.

Main brake lights do not work. all four signal

Your brake light switch has gone bad. The switch is located on your brake pedal and is a relatively cheap and quick fix. The switch, as it sounds, controls the brake lights from going on and off when the pedal is pressed. Replace this switch and your brakes will be back to normal. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!
