Citroen xsara faults

from your description of the fault, i beiieve that you may have a coolant flow problem or the coolant level is low this happened on my citroen xsara recently and i found out i had a pin hole leak in the radiator as the coolant level drops in the resovoir it reaches a low level sensor that brings on the stop the car red warning light, a tin of rad weld cured my problem. oyher things to also check or change would be the inline flow temp sensor and the thermostat. good luck, hope i have been of some help. Why would engine stumble just after start up?

With so little information reaching a solution is not likely.Does the fault happen every time the engine starts or only the first time? Does the engine run normal after the stumble? If it stumbles after every start a vacuum leak could be the cause. if it stumbles when first started turn it off and restart. If it starts as normal on restart. There is only one reason The coolant temperature sensor has failed. when this happens there will be a strong odor of gasoline. The computer meters fuel based on the signal it gets from the temperature sensor. when there is no signal it meters maximum fuel causing a slow rough first start and poor fuel milage.

When car slows down heat cools down

when you have that problem , almost all the time is the heater core clogged , you can have the engine running until reach normal temperature and touch both heater hoses at the fire wall, if one is hot and the other is not them the problen is your heater core.

Good Morning Vinnie: Does the fault occur on a cold engine or only when it has reached operating temperature? Also, is the Check Engine Light on?

Temperature gauge needle dropped to the cold side for no reason. all fluids are good. then the check engine light went on.

Your thermostat sound like it is stuck open.
How it works is your thermostat is designed to be closed when your engine is cold.
After you start your car your engine coolant circulates in the engine block.
This helps the engine reach its normal running temperature.
When your engine reaches the normal running temperature the thermostat slowly opens allowing the coolant to circulate through your radiator. the radiator cools the coolant and maintains your engine temperature so your engine does not over heat.
If your thermostat is stuck open your coolant is not permitted to allow the engine to reach normal running temperature. Causing your low temperature reading.
Hope this helps please give feedback good luck FixYa

Engine dies / cuts out when cold

Check the coolant temperature sensor. It is situated in the inlet manifold at the back of the engine bay. This basically acts like an automatic choke and tells the ECU to increase fuel mixture when the engine is cold.  I replaced many many of these to Renaults, Peugeots and Citroens for this exact fault.
