. There is probably nothing wrong with your transmission other than bearings . so before you go out and spend big money on the say-so of a mechanic, get several opinions . If there is a major failure -broken shafts ,gears etc) then get prices from wreckers that handle your make of vehicle.

My 2014 fiat 500 pop 1.4L with 56k miles needs a new or rebuilt transmission. reasonably driven by experienced man trans drivers. seems too soon?

far too soon
go to an accredited auto transmission shop and get a proper diagnosis done
of course if it is a cv transmission( type of belt driven auto)and you have used the wrong oil when topping up then it will require replacing as normal ATF destroys that type of transmission

I am have problem with my 2004 Dodge Durango straining to shift out of first gear.

Unfortunately automatic transmissions in Dodge trucks are notorious for breaking down. First thing I would try is to change the transmission filter and fluid quite often if the filter is clogged it will cause shifting problems, when you do this you will also need to replace the gasket on the transmission pan. Before doing the job check your owners manual for the proper type of transmission fluid, if you use the wrong type your transmission will not function properly. If this does not fix your problem you will most likely have to either rebuild your current tranny or have a new one installed.

What type of transmission fluid can i use for a transmission flush. there are new imports multi transmission fluid avialble at half the price of factory oil? is that okay to us? and how many quarts do i...

The newer vehicles today use synthetic fluids in their engines as well as the transmissions. Any type of synthetic transmission fluid will work. You will need 12 qts. of fluid to flush the unit. But usually to flush a transmission you need a transmission flush machine or access to one. Unless you are going to drop the filter pan then you are really not flushing the transmission.

Transmission oil filling

I changed the transmission oil on my pu truck ford f150. It was easy.
You'll need a transmission filter and transmission oil ask the serviceman how many qts you need.
Remember that you will have to check the dipstick and see that the two holes on it are covered with red trans fluid while the engine is running. Remember while the engine is on then you check to see if you need to add which you certainly will have to keep adding until it is full. Sorry i didnt give you more details.

Engine replacement

No it will not. Even if the engine mount points are the same (which they may be, since the chassis is the same), the conversion is very involved. You'd need a new ECU, new engine bay wiring harness, possibly new drive axles/hubs, likely a new radiator, and the transmissions may or may not be compatible. If they're not, you'd need the transmission, the transmission controller, and maybe a chassis harness or body harness to integrate all of it. If your 4.0L went for good, you're basically stuck with the replacement cost of getting another 4.0L. Changing over to the 3.0 could well cost more than the residual value of the car.
