Spark plugs are set at 0.035 inch.
Ignition timing is set at 0 degrees BTDC. The computer then controls the timing from there. There will be a wire that you unplug before you set the timing, then once you have verified that the timing is at 0 degrees, then reconnect the wire and you're done.

Testimonial: "I know full well that Haynes or Chilton manuals contain this info! I did not want to spend the time or money to obtain manuals to get this little bit of info when someone with the knowledge could share it with me. This kind of response is not useful and is just stating the obvious."

89 gmc f150 v6 chugging out like its gona die

F150 is a Ford model truck, not GMC.
But at any rate, since I don't know if you have a Ford F150 of some kind, a 87 GMC S15 or some kind of 89 GMC with a V6 I will suggest taking the ignition module to an Auto Zone and having them test it (A free service). Also test the fuel pressure.
If a tune up and fuel filter has not been done in some time that could very well be an issue.

Not getting fuel to my 89 sierra, fuel pump has power. will not hit when i crank it

although fuel pump might be running it might not be pumping enough fuel chek fuel pressure at the rail and see if it meets factory specs if not replace if it does then you might have a problem with the injection circuit

89 GMC S15 V6 going down the road and motor dies

Did you change your fuel filter? What about the air filter? You nay also have a bad plug wire. It may need a tune up. I do my own.

Back fire

the fuel pump or the sparkplugs or both, check it out.
Could be in need of a tune up... carb and timming adjustment. New plugs, wires, rotor, dist cap.Tune ups are needed on a regular basis ussualy once a year depending on the amount of miles you put on the car? The charging system sounds o.k but tune up may be in order
Timing is way off specs, or plug wires hooked up incorrectly. I would suspect the latter.
Firing order 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
or also
if vacuum leak
