Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
I have a 1996 jeep grand cherokee ovis edition 6cyl 4.0 i put in new spark plugs and wires, distrobutor cap and rotor, fuel pump and filter. fuel injectors and it still back fires and stalls when it ideals it sounds good soon as i step on the gas it back fires and stalls any ideas what i should try doing next ?
You probably have the distributor installed one tooth off. Or if it was doing this before you did all this the timing chain has jumped a tooth. remove the distributor cap, then set the timing mark on top dead center, then have someone watch the rotor and tell you when it moves then check how many degrees it moved. It should not be no more than about 2-3 degrees if more than that you probably need a timing chain and gears. BigD

Check the firing order of the HT leads .ensure tat the leads are not touching each other. Have a compression test done to check for valve/valve seat inset problems.
