How do you know the alt isn't charging?

    It should be volts, not amps. And 14.9 volts is actually a bit high for charging. Should be around 14 to 14.5 volts

I have a 1990 f150 lariat my alternator wont keep my truck running I replaced the alternator today along with alternator harness. I got the alternator tested and its good, the battery is good, and soliniod...

The diagram shows generator with internal voltage regulator and with external voltage regulator, at the moment, I don't know which one you have?
The bat terminal at the generator should be hot even with the key off, is it, use a test light. If no voltage either the fusible link is faulty or the wiring circuit to battery +. You can see fusible links in diagram.
Could be other issues, the generator probably needs excite voltage or it won't work. The excite voltage comes from charge indicator circuit. Does the charge lamp on the dash work?

Make sure you test it at the alterantor..not just at the battery..Your battery is the 9 v..under a load..while car running..but you have a wire that should be running from your alternator to your mau be bad..Or if you have a external regulator, that could be the problem, but i doubt it for that vehicle...Check your harness for the alternator, and make sure you have that power wire running back to your battery from the alternator...

New battery but still acts dead - Does computer need to be reset?

do not suspect computer.
1 the new battery may not have been charged from the store so would need to be charged before use, charge new battery on a charging set and see if this resoves the problem. *or use slave leads and start from a second vehicle)
2 your alternator may not be charging the battery so after a while it will just die. use a volt meter and check that volage is increaseing to your battery when the engine is running.
if not suspect alterantor defective and may need replacement.

Alternator over charge the battery ,i have a tune up done on the van but no fire i put it on the machine result igin coil change it no better

If the alterantor is OVER-charging the battery (or not charging it, either way) then the regulator is most likely bad. These are not generally replaceable, so you have to replace the whole alternator.

Battery terminal gets extremely hot. just replaced alterantor and battery. battery indicator light also on.

Sounds like for one reason or another that alternator is putting out too much voltage to battery. Did mechanic check to see if new alternator was rated same or close to old one, as in amperage rating? Pulley on new alternator same size? You'll need to get it to another mechanic who knows what he's doing, obviously that guy wasn't too concerned with curing your problem. That's why I was hoping you had a voltage reading when running.

difficult to accurately *****, you need to get the charging checked, even though you have a new alternater the problem could be as simple as the charging light not working, which causes the alternater to initiate. or you may have an electrical component staying on draining the battery.

Replaced battery twice/dead cells

More then likely just a fluke on 2 batteries,but i would check the output on the alternator to make sure it is NOT over charging.

Battery indicator light on while driving

usually the battery warning comes on while on the road, it means one of two things....1) the alternator has stopped charging. this can be either from a bad alternator or a broken drive belt. 2) the charge is too high. this is often from a part in the alterator called a regulator failing. the easy way to test it for one of these conditions is to look at your volt gauge on your display panel. when running it should read app'x 14 volts. if it is much lower or higher, it usually means the alterantor has failed. if you don't have a gauge, you can use a multimeter set to { volts-DC } and when running that should read between 13.5 and 14.5 volts. your car will start with a bad alterantor when you jump start it, but don't drive it too far. (auto parts stores will test your battery and alternator, usually for free)

It goes thru the dash circuits. Yes! add a wire from the alternator output to the plus battery . The charge lite may be inoperative - either on or off. You might want to put a fuse in that new line.
A cheap volt-ohm-meter would help you see if the alternator is charging 14-14.8 volt and the alterantor field is being energized.
