My 2003 rendevous is not charging, it has a neww battery and the alternator is good. What could be going on?

Check the fuses first. Ignition and PCM fuses. Check the big wire from the alternator to the battery. Check battery clamps. On any of these corrosion could and will cause no charging. After that, you need a wiring schematic. You'll need to check wires from the PCM to the alternator. The PCM is what turns the alternator on. If all those wires and cables check out good, you looking at replacing the PCM. 2003 is year specific. Meaning you can only put a 2003 PCM in it. The PCM also has to be programmed for your vehicle.

I have a 2001 olds. Alero, it is not charging...we have tried changing the alternator, battery, starter, alt. wires, ignition, nothing has helped.

Hi, check the 10 amp field fuse labeled GEN BATT in the box under the hood. If the fuse is good, the problem is the wiring from the PCM or the PCM itself, which controls the alternator. You can try backprobing the red wire at the alternator connector with a test light to see if the turn-on signal is coming from the PCM. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

THE RED SMALL POSITIVE BATTERY FEED WIRE COULD BE BROKEN THAT GOES TO BACK OF ALTERNATOR.CHECK TO SEE IF POWER GOING TO THE WIRE.IT NOT POSITIVE BATTERY SMALL FEED CABLE BROKEN.OR YOU HAVE BLOWN FUSE LINK.IF ALL IS GOOD YOU COULD HAVE PCM PROBLEMS YOUR FIELD CONTROL CIRCUIT PART OF THE PCM CIRCUIT.HAVE VECHICLE SCANNED TO LOOK FOR ALTERNATOR PCM FAULT. AFTER YOU INSTALL NEW ALTERNATOR DONT CRANK THE CAR UNTIL YOU GET A SCANNER AND ERASE TROUBLE CODE FIRST BECAUSE THE PCM THINK OLD ALTERNATOR STILL IN VECHICLE AND WILL CAUSE CHARGING PROBLEMS.

Thanks for your reply but the alternator is fine so is the battery & the jump fuse box all checked out ok.still have fault. i think its computer generated ie not activating the alternator to charge...

The voltage regulator is part of the pcm (powertrain control module) The pcm regulates the amount of voltage to the battery and system. The pcm will have to be replaced to correct the problem. Hope this will help you.

Alternator ligth staying on even after replacing alternator

The alternator is controlled by the PCM. Check the wiring to the PCM and also the power to the alternator. Sometimes when they go bad they will blow the fuse that supplies power on the three pin connector.
