Had transmission serviced, new fluid and filter. Did this because daughter was mentioning it was behaving erratically going through traffic circles. Fluid was turning brown, no solid or broken debris was found in pan. Only normal residue on magnet. Once service was completed i.e. fluid refilled and started up it took a while to find gear whether forward or reverse. Fluid used was valvoline 75000 plus and green bottle of merc V trans additive. Once it found the gears it move as normal. As I was driving home it started having difficulties, from a start would not find gear, in a corner would not stay in gear. On a straight away there was no problem with down shifting or accelerating for passing. The OD light is not blinking, it will also shift in and out of OD with the press of the button. Do not wish to drive for risk of potentially damaging the trans even more.
I am not a transmission guy, but I have had problems in the past with the new filter not being seated correctly after servicing causing all kinds of wonky symptoms. Just a thought, but it sounds like the problem started before service "daughter said it was behaving erractically in traffic circles". Its nearing 20 years of service - it might just be on its way out. Tear down and rebuild is expensive - might just trade it in and start fresh. Good luck.

You are going to need a transmission shop. Mazdas do not always throw codes. You have an early OBD transmission, which do not send out many codes.

If you have gone to a shop to have your transmission maintained, I would get them on the phone immediately. Foreign cars, especially shiftronic trans. usually use different fluids. If they have put the wrong fluid or forgotten a filter, etc., you may have a destroyed system. Double check with your fluid type and the type inserted in your vehicle.
