SOURCE: Location of blower motor switch resistor on 2004 Grand Marquis

The blower speed controller is located under the hood on the right or passenger side on the heater housing just to the side of the heater hoses near the very back of the right cylinder head.
Yes that would cause the concern you are having.

the sequence is on the passenger front plug is cylinder 1 then it goes 2,3,4 as you go to the rear of the motor.on the drivers side it goes from front to back 5,6,7,8

I bumped my neighbors 1989 merc grand marquis. Totally demolished passenger side tailight cover (the red thing). Need replacement

Tranny trouble


Sounds like your idle controll sensor, it most commonly looks like a spark plug, it plugs in to the side of the transmission, near the belle housing. But for now try a quart of lucas oil in your transmission, if that causes it to shift, then your bands are stretched, and most likely need a transmission.
