Is it a petrol or a diesel? Are you sure it's a power steering light? What does the light look like?

SOURCE: A4 steering lock does not engage and car won't turn over

The steering locks don't necessarily engage when the key is removed, I always turn the wheel before exiting to engage it. There are several positions that will allow the pin to lock in but if between these, it may seem that it isn't locked.

SOURCE: No Power Steering

the pump may have locked up,try turning it with the belt off, since its off now, which is why the battery light came on and lost power.Anyhow turn it back and forth feel for end shaft play, drain about 1 pint of fluid out by using a turkey baster, and add 1 pint of dot 3 brake fluid to the powersteering fluid,it helps with lubricating the bearings and seals.

SOURCE: car steering wheel locked; car won't start

If this is a floor shifter or center console shifter there is actually a lock release next to the shifter. Look next to the shifter handle and you should see a small square plug in the console remove the plug and you will see a little white button in it this is the shifter release push it and you can move the shifter.

Lost power steering, car died, changed battery, and barley made it home. The battery has power, but when you turn the key on the dome light and other lights, radio, windows, etc don't work.

Sounds like the vehicle is not charging you may need a new alternator get the car going with jump leads again and test the voltage at the battery terminals with a DC volt meter expect 13.5-14.5 if you get less than 13.5 your alternator is bad or wiring fault also check the alternator belt is tight.

Drivers side taillight and front turn signal don't work...bulbs have been changed on taillight

In about 1985 automakers started using plastics for tail light assemblies and ran a separate ground to the most convenient location for them, " the engineers". so run a wire to ground that you can reach and attach it securely. they basically use the same thing, but over 10 years they rust and lose contact. Also using that same ground make sure you are getting power to the light from the switch. Ignition on, signal on, and no light or power indicates the turn signal assembly in the steering column is broken and must be replaced. not difficult for mechanically inclined persons. tools needed- steering wheel remover tool, and ignition lock ring depresser.

Why did my 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe sudden lost power while driving?

what happened when you tried jumping the car? sounds like it could be a bad ignition switch since only non-switched things work.

Jump started a friends car, then the power steering quit. could it have blown the the fuse to the electrontic power steering?

Yes it could, alway jump someone with your ignition off. You can charge them up with you car first but turn your ignition off before they turn theirs on. That way if they have a short it doesn't affect your system.

My 2006 Pontiac G6 all of a sudden cut off on me while driving. The message said "Service Power Steering" and "Service Air Bag". I towed it to a Pontiac Dealer and because it started, they sent it back...

There are to many things that can cause this issue. At my best guess, I'll say an issue with the ignition switch or harness. The wire harness from the ignition switch could have a break from it or has been rubbing against a metal part causing a short and shutting down your engine.

This is the best i can think of since you have mentioned that your air bag and and power steering service light came on. I'l have them inspect the wire harness more closely to the ignition switch and replace if any sighs of worn area.

Thank you for using fixya and good luck

Starter turns but no ignition, PK3 M security

I have an 03 montana intermittant no start, security light flashes at the time of no start. Under the steering colom is a plug that comes fron the ignition with 4 wires pink , orng , blk, ppl. follow the wires and there is a plug. Try unpluging it then plug back in and try to start vehicle. If it starts then what i have done with it was wire in a relay that cuts power on ignition off and will power the module up on ignition.

blk to # 85 on relay, cut orng and attach one to # 30, the other to # 87, then attach pink to # 86. I have this working for 3 months so far no more intermittant start.

Yaris P/S light and Ignition

Car is covered by a 3 year warranty, return to supplying dealer before attempting any fixes yourself. Power steering is electric on these cars, I'm guessing it's something simple like the battery.

Can't shut off power.

I have an '86, and the ignition switch is on the steering column, right under the column shroud. That's what the actuator rod connects to, it activates the ignition switch when you turn the key. So if yours is anything like mine, there's just two screws holding the shroud on, so you should be able to remove the shroud and manually manipulate the ignition switch since the actuator rod isn't connected to it anymore. That way you can hopefully start it as well as turn it off.
