Question about 1990 Honda Accord

1 Answer

Fuel pump is not getting power

I am not getting power to my Fuel pump. I have a new fuel pump, and tested it before install, works. I have new Relay, I have good tight clean grounds, Fuses are all good, I have tried a ECU that was in working condition. I have tried everything I can think of why I am not getting power to fuel pump. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Have you checked all fuses and the main 12 volt relay under the driver side dash?

Testimonial: "Yes I have checked all fuses, under the hood, and under the dash. Also I have checked my Main 12 volt relay. It is working, but for peace of mind I installed one that was in a working car. Still no power to Fuel pump."

is the security light lit up when you are trying to start the vehicle? if not, then it would seem that you have a broken wire or possibly a loose ground wire somewhere between the engine fuse block and the fuel pump.

I got a CEL Checked that, and it 14 Idle control Valve, changed that with a working one, but nothing. How could I wire break? I have checked all my Grounds, they are all tight and clean.

wires of that age break all the time. They stay stationary for so long then we come along to replace a component such as the fuel pump or a sensor and the insulation stays intact but the copper inside just breaks. you'll need to take a test light and back probe the power and ground wires from the fuel pump backwards to the ecm and the fuse block.

I have checked with a testing light the fuel pump plug, and I am not getting anything. As for the Main relay and ECM and Fuse box I have not checked. I will check those today after work.

are you getting fuel or just changed pump because it died ---try starter fluid if starts --recheck fuel pump--relay for power --connections to pump -new doesnt mean free from defects or improper installation no start test for spark -

Put in new fuel pump, fuses are OK,new fuel pump relay and still no power to the fuel pump

Get a test light and test the wires going to it ground one end and see if you have power at the pump. If not do the same at the fuses so where you are not geting the power.

I'd have to test when problem is ongoing. When you first turn on key, no crank, you should hear the pump run for a few seconds then stop. For initial prime, the computer doesn't need rpm signal. Engine cranking, the computer needs to see rpm signal or it won't ground the fuel pump relay. W/o rpm signal, no spark at the plugs and no fuel injector pulse. I know your talking about fuel, but, when problem is ongoing, check spark and fuel injector pulse, engine cranking.
Intermittent problems are a pain, have to test when problem is ongoing.

Not guessing as to what the problem is , testing for voltage drop problems with a volt meter . posted a video on youtube yesterday . If your still looking for guesses forget it , no one on here could say for sure without testing the circuit an hooking up a scan tool to see if PCM is energizing the relay . Do yourself a favor an take it to a qualified repair shop . Fuel Pump Electrical Circuits Description and Operation If you can't learn how to test from this guy , better take to a repair shop .

2000 S10 4.3L Fuel pump stopped working out of the blue. We Put a new Fuel Pump in, new harnes to fuel pump, new fuel filter, new relay, new fuses in IGN C and ECM B fuses. Still the pump will not turn on....

At the fuel pump relay you should have 1 full time hot wire. 1 hot wire when you turn on the switch. 1 ground, and the other wire goes to the pump. Test the ground to be sure it is good. If so then jump a hot to the one that goes to the pump and see if it runs.If it does then you have a bad relay or ECM. You can swap the relay with another of the same # from tour fuse box to test it.There is also a ground on top of the frame near the filler neck, check it too. Good Luck

Did you verify that the relay terminals have the appropriate signals to them?

ECM fuse B (20-amp) should provide power at all times to the orange wire of the fuel pump relay. The relay coil receives ground via the black wire, and relay coil gets power from the dark green/white wire. When the relay is closed, you should have battery power on the gray wire.

The relay trigger wire should have power from the dark green/white wire in terminal 1 of the Vehicle Control Module (VCM) connector for the first couple of seconds after they key is turned to run (to prime the system) and when the truck is running. Checking for all the appropriate signals at the relay is where I would start. That is after I checked for diagnostic codes.

Believe the fuel relay is the middle relay out of the three in the left rear of the glove box. Last thing is to hot wire the fuel pump if you can not get it scanned, see if the pump is bad unless your going to have a shop work on changing the fuel pump.
Good luck and hope this helps. keep me posted.
