Question about 2004 Kia Sedona
You have a thermostats which can rust and lock up to prevent water from flowing which can cause the car to overheat. Depends where you live most times it is NOT needed and can be removed unless you live in winter states which gets cold and you want to generate heat inside the car. There is only 3 parts, the radiator, water pump and thermostat that can cause this issue. Good luck.

To start with you have to do this:
With the engine cold, start the car and say after 30 to 40 secs. open the radiator cap.
Carefully and slowly, cause if the problem is either in the cylinder block or cylinder head this shows immediately as water would be compressed in the radiator ( even though the motor is still cold ).
If nothing happens and you would not notice any bubbles in the radiator, then we have to talk again.

YOU NEED TO SCAN IT.TO SEE WHAT CODE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS COMING UP WITH.IT COULD BE THE TORQUE CONVERTER ON TRANSMISSION REMAINING LOCK UP OR MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR.IF YOU REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP.YOUR FUEL FILTER WILL CAUSE THE SAME PROBLEM IF ITS STOPPED UP.

SOURCE: KIA IS STILL OVERHEATING,
The thermostat is the engine temp controller. All the sensors do is relay information.
Are you sure your over heating. Has anyone infrared temp tested the actual temperature.
If you are really overheating a temp gun can test differnnt areas to try to find a blockage somewhere.
You could have a clogged radiator if you used a sealer in the coolant pryor to doing the head gasket.
