Question about 2000 Chrysler Cirrus

2 Answers

Our Chrysler Cirrus 2000, developed a very rough idle. There are times at stop lights etc. when I feel like the car is going to die. Sometime when we start the car, we can smell gas. The check engine light isn't coming on, so I'm assuming it has nothing to do with the gas cap.

Mine is doing the same thing. My check engine light did finally come on and when a reader was put on it the code is P0505 on the reader. When I looked that up it said "Idle air control system". I phoned my mechanic and he said to bring it in next week before it turns into a more serious problem. So far it hasn't stalled, but it makes me nervous. I am on oxygen, so I don't want to get stuck somewhere if it breaks down. So it will be going in for sure.
Hope it isn't expensive as I am on disability.

It had a heart attack!!. Sounds like a fuel line leak under the hood. Usually if something fails that will cause higher emissions the check engine light is supposed to turn ON. Seems like that feature has also failed.

Take it to a good mechanic before it catches fire.

2000 cirrus want change gears goes in drive and reverse inside on the dash where it tells you what gear you in all has squares around them speedometer doesn't work

Sounds like a speed sensor, I will look into that, but if the speedometer isn't working, its either cable, or electronic. Being a 2000, I'm guessing electronic. Chrysler have a lot of electronics on the transmission, as they are electronic themselves. I had an alternator go bad and my battery died, and the car wouldn't shift, it actually down shifted while driving. Have your battery and alternator checked first, then sensors. Like shift silinoid, speed sensor etc.

2000 chrysler cirrus problems

I have the same problem with great shaking while stopped idling, but no engine light. It is worse when cold and worse when in gear. I have a 1999 Cirrus with the 2.4L engine. It works great and there are no error codes. What I have discovered is that there is something called a flex plate that goes between the torque converter and flywheel and it was cracked. It must be easy to access to inspect (more work to repair though) as the garage didn't charge me for the diagnosis. They said that the crankshaft rear seal was also pushing out. You can do both at the same time once you get it apart.

Whirring noise in the front-end of a 2000 Cirrus

it does sound like wheel bearing a cv joint dont make noise and then stop but you can jack the car up and in neutral try to shake the tire from side to side.to see if you have any play then turn the wheel by hand try to feel for roughness in bearing. let me know what you find. Phil.
