Question about 2005 Pontiac Sunfire
ERLS fuse keeps blowing. When this happens, Check Engine light comes on and car won't shift out of 1st gear. I have changed the fuse approximately 10-20 times so far. What should I do next?
Find the dead short that is causing the fuse to blow would be a good place to start. A constant blowing fuse indicates a bare wire touching earth or a failed unit that is allowing excessive current draw. Once you have it fixed then the problem may disappear.

Your problem is typical for these cars. The throttle position sensor is bad. Go to Auto Zone and have them check the codes to confirm this. i've seen this many times, that's usually the problem. It makes the car feel like the brakes are on. Hope this helps. Let me know. Phil

SOURCE: Hard Shift to 2nd Gear/next gear
Your going to have to get your car scaned for codes. Auto Zone can scan it for you for free and tell your what you'll need to fix it.
It sound's like your VSS Sensor (speed sensor) is not working and your ECM is not getting the signal from the transmission to know when to shift the gears.
Becareful not to burn out the transmission till you get it fixed. The sensor it self is not that expansive and to replace it is easy and takes about 30 min to do.
If you get a P0720 or a P0722 code, then it's your speed sensor. It's an esy fix and Auto Zone can give you instrction on how to change it.
Good luck, it takes about 30 min to change and hope this helps.

The high beam light flashing means you have a high beam burnt out. It flashes when you put it in gear because your high beams actually double as your daytime running lights, only on a lower power.
