When I have it fixed it will run for a couple of days and then want start again. have had it at chevy dealer and they can't repair it either. Is not running at present time. Have not positively identified it as anything. Nobody seems to know what is wrong.

thanks. I will try replacing the computer which is one thing I have not had done. I want to keep my car but it is costing me money to try to keep repairing everything to not have it running.

I will also try replacing the sensor as well.

Is the mass air flow sensor one of the things you've tried? Usually if it's that, they will start and die, start and die. Maybe your's is just taking longer to die.

Have you positively identified your problem as electrical?

Sounds like the ECM (computer). I'm sure the Camero is fuel injected. The ECM controls the metering of fuel to the engine through the fuel injector or injectors as well as ignition spark & ignition timing of the coils that you said were already replaced.

A good GM dealer or a good auto garage should be able to verify the operation of the computer.

Or you could purchase a rebuilt computer from Aurozone or Advance Auto & install it yourself. You may have to swap out the eprom from the old computer to the new one.

A bad wire on starter. Bad hot wire to distributor. Both could cause no spark. Check for power at distributor. If that's good check for bad wires at starter. Those are first to check. Will check in for what you got in a bit. Hope this helps ya

I have a 84 camaro z28 with the computer controlled rochester 4 barrel and my ignition is intermitnly cutting out, im drivin down the road fine then bam ignition cuts, about 30 mins to 3 hours later it...

Two good possibilities there. Either the coil on top of the cap is bad and internally shorting out when it's hot or the pickup coil under the module has a wire that is partially broken or the pickup itself is going bad. The ignition coil is easy to replace and the pickup is replaceable but you need to remove the distributor, remove the bottom gear and remove the shaft to get to it. If it's a wire on the pickup you can either visually look for a break or while it's running sometimes operating the vacuum advance with a hand pump will make it stall. When it's not starting, first check the Batt lead on the cap. With the key on there should be full or very close to full battery voltage there.....need more? just ask!!

Hard start

Hi teabag,

I too, once owned a '95 z28, fun car to drive, anyway HO chevy small blocks w/EFI are notorious for being beasts on a cold start. Try this when you get ready to start the car turn the ignition on but don't start let it set there a few seconds you should hear the fuel pumping waking up. Now instead of holding the key and letting it crank and crank, just hit enough to let the engine fire. Not only will lengthen the life of your starter it will lengthen the life of the fuel pump.

No spark in my 1992 Chevy Camaro RS 3.1L engine rotates but doesn't engage.

Hi Candie, if you have air, fuel and spark it should run. Getting to the fuel side-"is fuel getting into the engine?" Your ignition may work, your starter may work, fuel pump may work, but if you have an ignition key with a resistor inside it (little silver piece of metal in the plastic of the ignition key) the key, it could be bad and will shut down the fuel injector. It's part of the security system if some idiot tries to break the steering column to steal your car. It won't run.
I have a 92 Z28 with a 350 and I had to get a new ignition with resistor and correct resistor ohm key. About $400.00 bucks but if you search around Z28 forums there are ways to bypass this for less $$ if you want to.
