Hi
If you have fitted the gearbox to the block without forcing it in anyway, i would disconnect the linkage and put it in gear manually and see if gears are obtainable.
if not, fault is either in the box or clutch / flex plate etc
cheers
Roger

I have a 2004 s-type jaguar. I got stuck in the snow and I am now getting a faulty gearbox message. Once unstuck the car ran fine. What does this mean and have I ruined the transmission?

If you ahve an automatic gearbox, I would suggest that you sit with the engine running for approx 5 minutes, Then select each gear in turn with a pause of about 10 seconds between each selection. (Make sure the parking (Hand) brake is on and don't rev the engine.) This should help to redistribute the transmission fluid throughout the transmission.

Transmission can be tricky to rebuild it depend on your ability, good second hand unit always quicker and easier to fit

I have a Mercedes benz, C200, 1996, Elegance. It vibtrates on reverse gear. All other gears are okay

If its a standard transmission its likely a bearing called the pilot bearing . Its a needle bearing that fits into the flywheel and the transmission shaft fits into it .If its worn the transmission will jump in reverse move up and down on the rubber mount . Or if its an automatic then its likely the rubber mount it self or a motor mount witch is also a rubber mount there is 2 on the motor and 1 on the trany

2001 jetta wolfsburg drops out of 5th gear

Hi Steven, check the engine and gear box mountings, but when the gears jump out of where you have selected it usually means a synchromesh clutch cone has become worn. That will mean a gear box rebuild. It may work out a lot cheaper for you to look for a good second hand box and fit that. You can sometimes pick up bargains at breakers yards. Don't shoot the messanger! Regards John

Transmission won't shift out of 1st gear

You will have to check the valve assembly- the part in your transmission that controls the gear shifting. In this model of transmission it's purely hydraulic so most likely one of the pressure release valves is stuck.
This is an very complex job that must be done only by an experienced mechanic. So either locate a repair shop specialized in transmissions or replace the entire transmission with a good second-hand one.

I have a problem with my mazda lantis '94. it seems to drive fine when i drive at 50km/h but it slips out of gear all the time. would it be the transmission itself or the sensor?

Hi B,
Is your vehicle automatic or manual? If its automatic start the engine and leave it idling. With the engine running check the gearbox oil level on the transmission dip stick (the one with the red top) and make sure that the fluid level is correct. If not, top up through the same tube where the dip stick fits. Don't over fill. If the fault persists the problem will be inside the gear box with the clutch and drive bands having most likely been damaged. The best and most economical way of fixing the vehicle will be to look for and get a good second hand box and have it fitted.
If its manual there is a probability that the syncro mesh cone has worn out. To repair the box is not very economically viable, so I'd recommend the same as for the auto box. Get a good second hand box and fir that.

Will a stock transmission fit on a 305 small block engine?

Not a stock 1991 GMC Sonoma transmission. They're made to fit a V6, not a V8.

Transmission

I would check fluid level first then look at your motor mounts; if they are bad the transmission linkage is being affected and could be shifting it into neutral temporarily.

Find outlet selection motor (between accelerator & HVAC case). With ignition "off" unplug connector from motor, after 30 second lapse reconnect. Turn ignition switch "on", observe white gear & linkage for smooth motion. Smooth motion: You're in luck. No motion: GENTLY rotate white gear by hand. If motion begins; lube linkage with lithium grease. If still no motion: remove HVAC control head, unplug connector & clean circuit board connector strip. Reconnect & Retry. Lastly, outlet selection motor may have failed, requiring its R&R (lotsa fun!).
