Question about 1988 Chevrolet Suburban

Open Question

My brother did an oil change and put too much oil in and it died on me and I drained some oil and it ran for about 10 min and I let it sit for a couple hours and then got back in and it would not start at first and let it sit and tried again and it started and then shut off again and that is what it does every time. What is the problem and how do I fix it? It ran great befor the oil change.

SOURCE: 1990 chevy cavalier died and wont start.

run a system trouble code test, most likely cause of this is a failed cranksahft position sensor. go to link.

What could be problem

Incorrect oil grade can possibly be the problem (oil too "thick") try an oil change using 10 w 40 oil (Castrol Magnetec) or Shell Helix

get you a gallon of marval mystry oil drain your oil and filter put a little mystry oil in your old filter rinse it out put back on and oil plug too fill with mystry oil crank truck let it run for 3 min let cool of drain put in new filter and oil if problem still accelorate and oil light still stays on you might have problems with oil pump if oil light goes out and still problems accelorating try changing fuel filter if this doesn't do the job also crack you truck up (if it is carberated carb) take air fiter off carb intake pour a little mystry oil in carb very slowly while running this helps to clean deposites due this for about little at a time you will hear motor sound like choking stop let motor catch up do this for about 3-5 min then pour mysry oil in till motor dies let set for 3 min start motor them put gas treatment (STP) in gas tank this should do the job if you have furl injestion put one cup of mystry oil in gas tank and one bottle of (STP) and atleat 6-10 gal of gas. if this doesn't do the job you may need to tale the truck to a spec.

I got a 90 VW jetta 1.8l (german made), its got 232000 milse on it. What happened to day is I was doing an oil change to it. And I put in Gunks motor flush, and with in 1-2mins it died. It started back up,...

I would drain that and the oil out, and change the filter. The motor flush may have thinned out the oil. The lifers my have lost oil pressure due to the oil viscosity being thin from the motor flush.

88 Toyota Corolla backfires through carburetor.

If that is carbureted, and has a mechanical fuel pump, try running a length of fuel line from inlet side of pump to a gas can that has fresh, clean fuel, and if it runs good that way, you know problem is most likely in the tank. Removing the tank & cleaning it out is best solution from there. I'd even be tempted to add a small bottle or 2 of Lucas Fuel Sytem Cleaner to first fill in clean tank, just to help clean lines as well as carb.

1988 5.7 TBI Nightmare This is the start of what the problem was and is, I had a RV cam installed when the engine was rebuilt a year ago. the cam was not a computer friendly cam so after a round with the rebuilder and discovering the specs weren't the correct ones for the cam I installed a 3702 edelbrock cam and lifters with a 7800 timing chain and gear set after I had tried two chips from Jet and no improved performance and the 3rd chip was to be for the cam and that is what is in the ECU now and I have tried about 5 different BCC chips and the bottom line is the power is there but something is happening its hit and miss the idle will sometimes lope, is stalled when first started and acts as if its starving for fuel or its bogged with to much fuel. the fuel pressure is 10 - 13 psi and I have R/R the TPS, IAC, ESC and knocks device , EGR and Solenoid, MAP, Temp sensor, and the Dist is a Procomp 10001 with a MSD-5526 coil. the Throttle Body was rebuild and the ECM was replaced with a Rebuilt ECM. it will smell rich etc. but with the things that goes on it does not show any codes?? I have no clue just feel stupid this is been a simple thing that is kicking my **** and now its a challenge but still loosing the fight too far in and too much spent to stop,. LOL Help !!!! The BCC is a california vehicle AFBX, 5.7TBI TH400 A/T P.S. the key can be turned of and back on as the engine not dying and seems to correct the power and run problems but will not last goes back to running bad or with problems. ?
