Save $ & take the time to have a dealer or transmission repair place scan for codes. It really will probably save you money in long run. Remember, a correct diagnosis doesn't mean you have to agree to have it fixed, and if in doubt, take it elsewhere for second opinion. Waiting on transmission issues usually has bad results.

That's normal for Chrysler minivans. Clear the code and don't worry about it unless it happens again.

Oil light comes on when at idol

This is typically a sign of a couple of things. Depending on the mileage of the vehicle. Either you have little to no oil pressure at an idle, which would indicate either worn main bearings, or a weak oil pump, or, the oil sending unit is bad/clogged, and at an idle it does not register enough pressure so the light comes on. I am betting on the sending unit being bad.I had a Caravan that did the same thing and I fixed it for under $13.00. You can p/u one at any auto parts store and put it in yourself if you have some patience and the right tools (a socket, ratchet, and a common screwdriver) and a little time. If your engine is knocking at an idle, then it is not the sending unit and you are in need of some more serious engine repair. Hope this helps!

THAT IS THE OVERDRIVE IN THE TRANSMISSION
THE CAR MIGHT NOT WANT TO SHIFT TO HIGH GEAR OR OVERDRIVE SOME OF THESE CARS USE THE COMPUTER TO SHIFT IT TO OVERDRIVE AFTER IT GETS WARM THE THERMASTAT PLAYS A ROLL IN THAT WHEN THE ENGINE IS WARM THE LOOP IN THE COMPUTER CLOSES AND THE CAR WILL SHIFT TO HIGH/ OF THAT WON,T FIX IT THEN THE COMPUTER IS AT FAULT OR THE SENSOR IN THE TRANSMISSION IS BAD

2001 dodge grand caravan will not shift gears. What could be the problem and how much will it cost to fix?

might be in limp in mode.check fluid level.if fluid level is ok unhook battery for 30 seconds then recrank vehicle.if it does not shift gears or does shift a few times then quits again would suggest letting a transmission expert look at it as you might have a sensor problem or a leak internally.

My 2001 dodge caravan isn't shifting into overdrive.. and is hard to shift from park to drive and to reverse. any ideas?

The transmission is probably shot. the only other thing could be dirty linkage if you mean "hard" as in hard to move the shift lever. The first thing I would do is get a tranny fluid and filter change.

Shifting gears

the speed sensor is for Overdrive only, it does not shift the gears it sends the signal to the transmission control module that in turn signals the overdrive shift solenoid to engage/shift into OD.

2001 impala will not shift into overdrive

your overdrive clutch hub has gone out/worn out.
It can be replaced or you could have the whole transmission re-built or replaced with a low mileage one from the salvage yard , etc at a lower cost..(which is what I did)
This is common on these trannys.

TRANSMISSION

sounds like either a bad speed sensor or controller. shift points are too high, should be at 2000 or slightly less. if fluid is good and clean and shifts do not flair, check those control units. Not sure about calibrate...could mean out of calibration...Id ask
another tech about that. (i don't know everything!)

Sounds like your trans is stuck in limp in mode. Could be something simple as a sensor, or something major as the trans or the computer. Will need to be computer diagnosed.
