2000 sportage hard to start after it is shut off or in morning

My Kia sportage after running for some time is very hit or miss if it will start again after being shut down. After about a half an hour of trying to start in some cases it sputters and then runs great. What might be the problem starting? I Dont know where to start... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2000 sportage and every time mine doesn't start it acts like it may be the spark plugs or something to do with the fuel pump but it is always the starter. I have had it for 7 years and have had to replace the starter 4 times.

Good morning, the 1 and 2 fuses get hot and it won't start, did I change them and started. Well for a while now they warmed up again, I changed them, and did not start. motor is a 1999 kia sportage 2.0

My 2000 kia sportage wont start.The battery is up but seems like its not getting gas.I jump it and its fine tell next morning then all over again

If you are able to jump start then this would indicate either the battery or the wiring at the battery is faulty not the fuel system!

Some makers used Vacuum releases for their emergency brakes which had a Vacuum switch connected to the shift assembly. This would account for a stumble if Vacuum vented out through this switch.

More common for shifting stumble to occur from Park to Drive, engaging a load on the engine, not to stumble to a freewheeling Park position. Sounds like idle speed control is sluggish to stabilize the motor.

You also have idle speed control problem with A/C, kind of shows that A/C was what kept the engine running because when you turned the A/C off, the car died.

I am going to give you some Websites for wiring diagrams. Alldatadiy.com amd Autozone.com with free wiring info upon registering your vehicle.

It seems that the base Idle speed control is not working and the A/C idle speed control is.

Also check for Vacuum leaks on the intake manifold by spraying water from a pumpbottle on the seams of the gaskets.

Check ignition Relay or ignition switch for random cutouts. The fusebox layout is on the Autozone site.

Drive Belts

if the alternator belt is still on your good to go and to the guy above me. no the alt. is on the belt with the radiator fan. having no power steering will not affect how your car runs...just give you stronger arms from turning at low speed hop this helps dont forget to rate

Hard to start / engine rotates but wont start

check fuel pressure with a gauge,turn the key in the on position an read pressure ,if pressure goes lets say to 40 or 50 on one key cycle pump is prob. good . if it takes 3 to 4 key cycles to achieve this pressure ,pump is bad or connection in tank is bleeding off over night.
