SOURCE: p1153 insufficient switching p0700 1996 tahoe

P0700 - Transmission Control System Malfunction, clear the code and see if it comes back, all this code is, is the TCM (trans control module)
telling the check engine light to come on for a possible trans fault, many times it is a false code and means nothing is wrong unless it has another trans code stored with it like a shift solenoid for instance.

P1153 - Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Insufficient Switching Bank 2 Sensor 1, You would be pretty safe to assume the O2 sensor for cylinder bank 2 ahead of Cat converter is defective.Bank 2 is the side opposite the bank that #1 cylinder is located in.

SOURCE: codes given are p0700 and p1781. Anyone know what these codes stand for? Thanks

The Transmission shop lacks the skills and tools need to do the job. It's best to call around for a shop that has a proper scanner to talk to the TCM computer. The real trouble codes are in there. The best place would be a shop that has a ASE mechanic on duty or the Dealership.

Here what the two codes means:

P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction
It means you have a trans control problem in the trans computer.
You will need to get it on a trans capable scanner to see what the trans code or problem is.

the P1781 is set during engine start up when the ECM & TCM do not communicate properly during initial power up. It will only illuminate the service light if the condition occurs in 2 consecutive start cycles, but the DTC will be stored in the failure records after the first cycle.

P0140 Oxygen Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 1 Sensor 2) P1192 Post-catalyst Fuel Trim System Bank 1

Replace the O2 sensor after the catalytic Converter and check to make sure the wire harness and clips are not damaged. Also check the O2 sensor fuse in the fuse panel to make sure there not blown.
As for the p0700 code is a generic code and the ECM needs to re-calibrated for the performance upgrade in your transmission. It's common to happen when there are changes like the transmission fluid pressure has been altered which would give it a better and firmer shift, but the transmission reads the higher line pressure as a problem. If you take it to a good transmission shop with a tech2 scanner, the tech2 can change the transmission ECM parameters and that way it will recognize the higher transmission line as a norm.
Have done a few upgrades on the 4L60E with a common swap of the servo's with a corvette servo's ($45.00) to firm up the shift and raise the transmission line pressure to keep the slipping to a minimal and also bring down the shift points at WOT on the 1st-2nd shift to get going a bit faster (used Tech2 scanner).
Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help.

P0700

The transmission of a vehicle which has suffered a transmission problem will send the P0700 code to the vehicle engine control module (ECM)

P0705 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction

Possible causes

- Open or short park/neutral position switch circuit
- Poor park/neutral position switch circuit connection
- Misadjusted park/neutral position switch
- Park/neutral position switch may be faulty

P0455. A code p0455 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:

A loose or improperly affixed gas cap

A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)

Other leak or damaged piece in EVAP system

P1125 Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) System

P2125 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "E" Circuit

Whats a p0700.....

P0700 Fault Code Definition
  • Transmission Control System Malfunction
What does this mean?
The purpose of the automatic transmission is to match the engine's optimum power and torque characteristics to the driver's desired rate of acceleration and speed by auto-selecting different gear ratios or 'speeds' to power the wheels.
When the code P0700 is set in the Powertrain Computer, it means that the Powertrain Computer or PCM is seeing greater than a specified RPM difference between the rotational speed of the Input RPM Sensor and the Transmission Output RPM Sensor. This can occur during shifting or when driving at steady speeds in the same gear. It often implies that the transmission is slipping.
Symptoms
  • Check Engine Light will illuminate
  • Vehicle will not shift properly
  • Decrease in fuel economy
  • In unusual cases, there are no adverse conditions noticed by the driver
  • In some cases, there may be performance problems, such as dying when coming to a stop after driving on the freeway and/or misfire-like symptoms
Common Problems That Trigger the P0700 Code
  • Defective Shift Solenoids
  • Defective Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
  • Defective Valve Body
  • Dirty transmission fluid that restricts the hydraulic passages
Common Misdiagnoses
  • Engine Misfire problem
  • Internal Transmission problem
  • Driveline problem

P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction OBD-II Trouble Code Technical Description Article by Dale Toalston ASE Certified Technician Transmission Control System TCS Malfunction What does that mean? Many vehicles have a control module for the automatic transmission called a transmission control module (TCM). The engine control module (ECM) communicates with the TCM to monitor the automatic transmission for faults. If the TCM detects a fault in the automatic transmission and sets a transmission related fault code, the ECM is informed of this also and sets a P0700 in the ECM memory. This illuminates the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) to let the driver know there is a problem. If this code is present and the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is illuminated that basically means there is at least one transmission code set in the TCM's memory. P0700 is an informational code only. It doesn't point to a direct fault in the engine, only a general fault in the transmission. More diagnosis is necessary to identify what the transmission fault is. This requires a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission module. Symptoms Symptoms of a P0700 DTC may include: Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination The transmission may exhibit drivability problems like slipping, etc. Causes More often then not, the cause of this code is that there is a transmission problem of some kind. The TCM detected the problem and set a code. P0700 means that a fault code is stored in the TCM. However this doesn't rule out the possibility of a failed PCM or TCM (unlikely). Possible Solutions For a P0700 the only real solution is to acquire a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission control module. Extracting this code from the TCM will be the first step in repairing the fault in the transmission. If the TCM compatible scan tool will not communicate with the Transmission Control Module then that is a good indication that there may be a fault with the TCM itself. P0700 DODGE - Transaxle Control System Malfunction

Symptoms - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Driveability problems
- Transaxle shifting problems

Possible causes - Shorted or open circuit within transmission control module (TCM)
- Failure of transaxle control module

Tech notes Since the P0700 is just and informative code, check the TCM for more codes to resolve the problem.

P0700 DODGE Description The transaxle Control Module (TCM) monitors the malfunction of sensors and actuators relating to transaxle control. When the TCM detects a malfunction with the control, a signal is send to the Engine Control Module (ECM) to trigger the Engine Light or Service Engine Soon light. The ECM stores the P0700 code and it means the TCM detected a malfunction with the transaxle controls.
CLEAR THE CODES AND SEE IF IT RESETS. MOST LIKELY NOT A PROBLEM

Car does not run ,I check the code ,it is P0700

Because it is not starting, you should replace the Crankshaft sensor (above the oil filter, back of the engine)-it will cause a P0700-I have a 99 SL2, 178,000 miles

DTC) CODE # P0700....Transmission Control System (MIL Request)
Translation: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Malfunction or Failure. P0700 Information Code The Transaxle Control Module (TCM) monitors the malfunction of sensors and actuators relating to transaxle control. If any malfunction is detected, the TCM informs the PCM by sending a signal (P0700 code). P0700 means that a code has been set in the TCM. This code is for information ONLY. If this code is present, check for transaxle codes. So basically, the P0700 code is telling you to check the TCM for a transaxle DTC. The TCM can not turn on the check engine light so it has the PCM do it. The dealer probably saw the code P0700 and went to the TCM and pulled out the code stored there telling them the Transmission Solenoid Assembly (TSA) is bad. This is a good example of understanding what the codes actually mean. If the manual you looked at said the TCM is bad and to replace the TCM when you see a P0700, then it is wrong.

P0700 code?

P0700 is a code that tells u the TCM [transmission Control Module] has requested that the PCM [Powertrain Control Module] turn on the check engine light, u now need to ge the TCM tested for the transmission fault code(s) that were stored when the check engine light was turned on by the TCM through and by the PCM

(DTC) CODE # P0700....Transmission Control System (MIL Request)

Translation:
Transmission Control Module (TCM) Malfunction or Failure.

P0700 Information Code

The Transaxle Control Module (TCM) monitors the malfunction of sensors and actuators relating to transaxle control. If any malfunction is detected, the TCM informs the PCM by sending a signal (P0700 code). P0700 means that a code has been set in the TCM.

This code is for information ONLY. If this code is present, check for transaxle codes.

P1776: Solenoid Switch Valve Latched in Low/Reverse Position. The TCM monitors the L/R solenoid to ensure that the fluid transfer happens. It uses a Pressure switch to verify this. Usually this code is set by a switch that is stuck or a solenoid that is not mechanically operating.

A transmission shop would be better suited for this type of work.

Engine light on code p0732, p1782, p1787 and p0700 twice

P0732 Gear 2 Incorrect ratio
P1782 P/ES Circuit Out Of Self Test Range
P1787 2-1 Downshift Error
P0700 Transmission Control System (MIL Request) Malfunction

Here is the deal, u have some serious transmission related faults, in order to sort this out u will need to take this to the dealer, allot of testing is required to get to the bottom of this, if I had to guess I would say the trans is going to have to be overhauled.
