Question about 2005 Volvo S40

2005 S40- Air conditioning

Any suggestions- my airconditioning works great for the first 5 minutes I drive the car or if I am in a covered parking garage. I had it serviced and had the freon changed, etc. There are no leaks.

First you need to check whether the compressor clutch is engaged when the cooling stops if it is still engaged and no cooling u have a malfunctioning expansion valve.this can be checked by connecting the service gauges and if the low side reads a vacuum then you need to have it changed.

I have a 20000 nessan quest and the airconditioning was working great but all of a sudden the air got warm so I put in 3 cans of freon, then changed the selector but still I get warm air when it was...

3 cans should overcharge & possibly ruin the system

Leave A/C work to the trained mechanics

You need at least a week long class, to even learn the
theory of Air Conditioning for any system & cars are not
the same as commercial work. I think they are harder
to diagnose & work on.

no it could be air condition clutch that engage/disengage the air condition compressor and disengage it through the pulley or could be the pulley bearings one of them . also check the solenoid that controls that clutch .
have a good luck sir .

I had the same problem with my 2005 s40. I took it into the dealer and they told me it was "A faulty AC clutch." Apparently this part turns the compressor on and off in the car or something along those lines. It was covered under my extended warranty but the total invoice cost was around 400 dollars.

Intermitten AirConditioning

Sounds like there is either

1. Too much freon in there

or

2. Not enough freon in there.

Freon (R) being freon or low CFC equivalent.

Sounds like the system is working fine, then the condensor or compressor gets too cold and freezes up (or gets WAY too hot). when you turn the A/C off, the system has time to stabilize and return to a more 'normal' condition.
