Going from a standing start car lacks power then all of a sudden is ok. Engine warning light has come on in dash

make sure the car is not running on the battery only and the alternator is good and all of the vaccum lines are good and they are on and ask yourself when was the last time you had a tuneup spark plugs and wires if needed and drivebelt and a fuel filter and a air filter.

this could be a couple things yes EGR would be one the other is dirty fuel filters remove the EGR and vacuum out the location(do not use a spray cleaner), have a o-ring to replace when you pull it out, clean off the EGR, usually coked up. or if you prefer get a new one as sometimes they get locked up. and change the fuel filters.
