Hi Shaun, would you know where the relay is?

normally in engine bay near all the fuses.....possibly double sized to other relays in there. start the car so the hazards come on, open bonnet and listen for clicking noise in the fuse box.....thats the relay you need. One more thought as to the cause it may be that your crash relay sensor has had it. This automatically turns on the hazards, cuts fuel pump etc in a crash scenario.

Shaun, thank you for your replies. I have an apptmnt scheduled for Tuesday and the dealer is going to replace the switch and wiring to see if that fixes the problem. They did say if that doesn't fix it then they recommend replacing the LCM, which I have a hard time believing it's that expensive part for just a hazard flasher problem.

Can I ask you this question also? Would a new Drive Shaft possibly be the problem for not being able to remove the key from the ignition, after the car is in park and shut off? The Drive Shaft was replaced in November 2013 and another mechanic, non BMW, said this problem could be because they didn't program or set the gears/shifter properly. This problem occurred when I took the car to the dealership to turn off the flashers. The only way to get the key out was to take the car from park, to drive, neutral, reverse and back to drive. Your thoughts on this too are greatly appreciated.

2nd to last sentence should read "back to park", not back to drive...sorry about that

cant see that being an issue at all if im honest. as for the LCM....they can get water ingress but usually if that happens then a whole bunch of electrical weirdness goes on....my bet is still the flasher relay or crash relay gone bad.

SOURCE: 1998 bmw 740il will not start even with new a battery

If you checked all the fuses try putting the car in neutral sometimes the shifter gets misadjusted and wont start till the car is completely in park.If not check for a lose wire to the starter. If the car has an after market alarm you will have to turn it off before starting there should be a little buuton under the drivers dash or kick panel.GOOD LUCK

SOURCE: 2001 BMW 740iL is sputtering when I accelarate and shaky when idl

A tune-up and throttle body clean-up is a good idea, but mind you on those cars, the valve covers usually leak into the spark plugs and coils, causing the car to misfire. If you are replacing the plugs and find them soaked in oil; replace your valve cover gaskets or you will be back to the same problem soon after the oil soaks the new plugs back up again.

check battery cables.make sure they are not loose are or corroded.if battery cables okay.problem could be faulty starter - electronic immobilizer control - ignition switch + check its fuse first.if you disconnect battery cables besure to turn off radio so you wont lose code.

I do not have the 740IL manual, but generally the fuel pump relay is either on the right side in the trunk above the battery or behind the glove box. (there is usually a little card indicating which relay it is)

Where is the radiator drain plug located on a 740il BMW 1999

For 1999 BMW 740IL 4.4L EFI DOHC 8cyl drain the cooling system (on some engines), this requires removing the plug from the bottom radiator tank.

Good luck.
