A few things could be causing this problem:

  1. Vibration when running is an indication that one or more spark plugs are fouled or missing
  2. Cracked/worn distributor cap
  3. On all models except the Millenia, the fuel filter is attached to a bracket located in the left rear of the engine compartment, next to or beneath the brake master cylinder fluid reservoir
I hope this answered your question. Best of luck.

Yes, I had the same problem with a customers car, the idle air control solenoid sticks, causing low idle and even stalling if you are running ac. Remove the IAC with the small aluminum housing it is attached to (4 screws), remove the idle solenoid a round looking device, 2 screws hold it to the housing. Carefully pull it apart and clean out the inside with carburetor cleaner, there is a spring and plunger inside there, make sure the seat is clean where it makes contact inside the housing, this valve controls idle through vacuum, if it is weak or leaking, through carbon build up it will cause the engine to vibrate because of very low idle. Also which I did on my friends car I pulled out on the spring and stretched it to make it push tighter against the plunger, this created a better seal, once I refitted this to the car it was fine. That valve was $250.00 my cost, which is why I went to this length to correct. Most shops would have just fitted a new valve. I may also add, I know of a lot of customers changing all of their motor mounts for the vibration problem when all they need was a little boost on the idle, which is non adjustable.

Make sure when you changed the plugs thsat you did not cross any of the plug wires. if you put any wires in the wrong place you could do serious damage to the engine!

it sounds as if the transmission might be slipping. Check the fluid level and condition. If the color is not a strong red color and more of a brown or black color, then you will need to replace the transmission. A fluid change at this point will not help you. good luck!

Car started to shake while driving

Jack front end. Use both hands to check driver and passenger side tires for slight wobble. If wobbles, you have a bad ball joint. Otherwise inspect tie-rod end for wear.

Transmission

Sounds like the neutral safety switch is faulty. The engine should not start with the trans. in gear. It seems as though the neutral switch is not disengaging when the engine is running and then put in gear.

In addition, this could be a module fault. I would disconnect the battery for a few hours to reset the module memories. Reconnect and start the car and see if it still occurs. If so, you need to see if you can bypass the neutral switch temporarily and see if it allows you to go into gear. Otherwise, you need to plug in a diagnostic tool and see what error codes, if any, are being displayed. It doesn't sound like a shift solenoid issue, it sounds as though the neutral switch is faulty.

good luck.

My 98 dodge avenger shuts off instantly after I crank it up. Or if it is running and I stopped @ a red light, my car will shut off. or it will start shaking before it shuts off.

if you press(and hold) the gas pedal down a little while stopped, does the car still die? if it doesn't die, your problem is the Idle Air Control motor. it located on the throttlebody.
