If you disconnect the battery for 2 minutes ,the code will reset.as long as the evap system is proper,it will not generate another one.

It does need reset. Try a local AutoZone or parts store that does free check engine lights. Any repair shop will charge diagnosis.

Why did the check engine light come on

The check engine light usually comes on due to emissions issues. I'd bet that tank of gas was the culprit. Run it nearly empty and then fill up again. If it doesn't go out in a few days take it to an auto parts store and have them read the code. At that point my guess would be O2 sensors.

Engine light,

99% of the time, the gas cap wasn't tightened properly, or is leaking. Make sure you twist it tight and it clicks a few times. If the "Check Engine" light stays on after a few days, buy a new gas cap. Again it may take a few days to clear.

2009 crv check fuel cap

Go to the parts store where you bought the cap. Sometimes the code clears on it's own and sometimes you need to have it reset. If this is not an option disconnect the negative battery cable for a minute. Just as a warning, if you disconnect the battery you will have to reprogram most all of your electronics.

My check engine light came on. Just a couple of days ago the digital display said my gas cap need tightening. I twisted it but did not remove it and then put it back on. I was told that if the gas cap...

yes it could ! this is part of the emission system on todays vehicles. if your sure you do not have a hole in a emission hose. just replace cap, the seal may be bad on cap. then drive it. light should go out if this is the only problem. good-day ! check all lines and hoses in system. remove cap completely and replace it. this may fix problem.

I have a 2003 cadillac cts. the other day i was driving out of nowhwer a message comes in the screen saying "gas cap adjustment" or something like that n next thing you know my engine light came...

You shouldn't have anything to worry about. A loose gas cap will throw a check engine code in most newer vehicles. As long as you tightened it up, you are fine. The light sjould go off on it's own before your next refill, but if it doesn't take your car to an Advance or Autozone and they will clear the code for you for free. There is no danger in driving your car with the light on for this trouble code. Have a great day.

My check enigne light is on. but the light flashes in and out. the check engine light has to do with my evap system and i have taken it to a shop 3x and they still havent found the issue. cant figure that...

An evap code is common with these cars when the gas cap is not tight enough. Make sure you always tighten the cap a minimum of 3 clicks. Try tightening the cap and resetting the code to see if it comes back on.

Good Luck!

Check engine light came on. Code P1456.

Did you change the gas cap with a Honda gas cap? Tighten it at least three clicks?
Also, Honda recommends that you never top off the tank when getting gas (only go to the click-off of the pump; otherwise you can get back flow into the system that will cause the code).
Tightening or replacing the cap will not immediately cause the light to go off; it can take up to three days of driving for the light to reset.
To check if your readiness codes (emission system) are set, turn the ignition to ON (II), without starting the engine. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp will come on for 20 seconds. If it then goes off, the readiness codes are set. If it blinks 5 times, the readiness codes are not set.
You can, of course, try resetting your engine light to see if it will come back on (which it probably will). I believe the procedure is:
Turn off the engine.
Press and hold the Select/Reset knob (odometer) in the instrument panel, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
Hold the knob for approximately ten seconds until the indicator resets.

Hope this helps you.

Engine Light/tighten fuel cap

Good Day,

Sounds like your fuel cap needs to be replaced, there is a rubber seal in there to which keeps fuel pressure up, when this seal goes bad you get a drop in pressure and your engine light will come on. Replace the cap with a new one. As far as your lighter ports that is probably due to a blown fuse and unrelated to the fuel cap issue.

Hope this helps
