Can't close hood on 2007 Subaru forester

Try pulling the latch lever again. Sometimes, when the hood alignment isn't quite right, the latch will lock before the hood end gets in the right place. Otherwise your hood latch is misaligned or your cable is rusted and has the latch stuck open.

Fig. Fig. 3: Have an assistant secure the hood, then remove the retaining bolts

  1. Have an assistant hold the hood in the up position. Remove the hood support and remove the hinge-to-hood bolts.
  2. Remove the hood from the vehicle.

To install:
  1. Position the hood against the hinges, using the marks made previously on the hood to help with alignment.
  2. Have an assistant hold the hood. Install the hinge-to-hood bolts, the hood support and the hood support bolts. If so equipped, install the washer hose.
  3. Tighten all bolts securely and check the hood for proper alignment.

The hood is provided with up-and-down and side-to-side adjustments.

  1. To make the side-to-side adjustments:
    1. Loosen the hood attaching bolts and move the hood to the proper position, then tighten the attaching bolts.
    2. Repeat the procedure if necessary.

  2. To make the up-and-down adjustment (at the rear of the hood):
    1. Loosen the hood stop bolts.
    2. Using a screwdriver, turn the hood stop screws clockwise to lower the hood and counterclockwise to raise the hood. Hood is at the proper height when it is flush with the fenders.
    3. Tighten the hood stop bolts.
    4. Repeat the procedure if necessary.

Hood Latch
See Figure 4
  1. Make sure that the hood is properly aligned.
  2. Remove the hood latch attaching bolts. Move them as necessary to align with the latch dowel. Tighten the attaching bolts.
  3. Remove the locknut on the hood latch dowel, and turn the dowel clockwise to pull the hood tighter and counterclockwise to loosen it. The proper height is when the top of the hood is flush with the fenders.
  4. Tighten the dowel locknut after the proper adjustment has been obtained.

Can anybody tell me how to align the hood latch on a 2001 f150? should the "hook" on the latch be centered on the striker bar that is attached to the hood itself?

leave the striker plate loose(ish) when you lower the hood and it will self align....if you are lucky,it will do it first time.....

How do I adjust the hood alignment, hood will close but not lock.

Why do you need to do this?
If you have the same hood, look at the bolt impression left at all four bolts align them so you will not see the old bolt shadow.
If you have a different senerio, put the bolts on almost tight but a little loose, enough that when you close the hood(gently) the hood and the bolts will align together.pop the hood and lock down the bolts tight.

Hood wont close

the alignment must be off...are all the seams on the side equal?
Has someone sat on or bumped the hood?  Can you see what's hitting?  Is the hood pin going into the hood latch?  Has someone played with the latch while the hood is up and it's not in position to receive the latch pin?

I have a 93 dodge van and the hood release is not letting me release the hood. It is extremely loose. How to get a better look at it or is it something that can be tightened

There are a couple of adjustments you can do. That is as long as you can get it open easily wth a second person. On each forward corner of the hood there is a support stop (two total). This adjustment is for the hood to fender alignment. The stops merely turn to adjust (they look like a plastic bolt). Thats a quick and easy. If the hood to fender alignment is good and you don't want to mess up that then the spring attached to the hood is adjustable. Use a very large flat blade screwdriver in the middle of the spring, that screws the center pin up and down. Make sure the latch on the core support is centered recieving the spring assembly.
