SOURCE: 99 chevy suburban sevice engine soon light is on.

While the CEL is on you need to take it to an autoparts store and have the code read to know what is exactly going on. Just cuzz it seems to be running fine does not mean there isn't something wrong.

SOURCE: service engine light staying on

Hello tdamm...No...the service engine soon (SES) light on your yukon is not telling you to change the oil.
This is a warning light that is illuminated when there is a problem affecting the Emission system and the engines computer management (ECM) has detected it from a fault. It could be something as simple as a loose or defective gas cap. If the SES light is blinking, it's more serious....
The yukon needs to be connected to diagnostic equipment (scanner) for fault diagnosis.
You can go to autozone they will hook up an OBD II scanner to your vehicle and explain the codes to you.
Good luck...i hope this helps and will fixya up.

SOURCE: My service engine soon light is on and my truck is running fine.

changing your oil should have no effect on your check engine light. You'll need to have the code pulled with an OBDII reader to and then look up the code to see what the exact cause of the check engine light is. A vehicle that sounds great while running may still have some minor issues that can become big issues if it's not addressed.

1999 pontiac grand prix service engine light soon is on, what does it mean ?

The service engine soon light is an indicator /reminder for you to do some type of maintanence work on your vehicle, depending upon your mileage that you have accumulated on your car dictates the sort of maintanence needed on the car.
Can either be as simple as an oil change or as complicated as a major service/tuneup, oil change, transmission change, wheel alignment, brake inspect, tire rotation etc.
Once the work is performed the technician must turn off the light.
Reference the dealership or reliable repair shop for further information.

03 mercury mountaineer, service engine soon light came on. i was told it needed a oil change . we did that , now how do i get the light to go off ?

Your Service Engine Soon light has nothing to do with reminding you to change your oil. The light is controlled by the ECM (Computer) in your vehicle. It monitors various sensors in your engine and compares them to variables or programs that is in its memory. When something is not registering correctly or is outside of its parameters it will turn on a MIL(Malfunction Indicator Light)or in your case a Service Engine Soon light. You will need a OBD II ( On Board Diagnostic) reader or scanner to hook up to your diagnostic port under your driver's side footwell to read what code the ECM is putting out. Than with the code the mechanic can look up the code to see what part is sending a malfunctioning. The scanner can also read and erase the code too. You can have your code pulled up with a OBD II scanner for free from any AutoZone store.

I have a 1998 Honda Accord the service engine soon light came on. I failed inspection and was told I had a Diagnostic trouble code P1259.(1) What does P1259 trouble indicate. (2) How do you turn off the...

p1259 is a problem with the VTEC system. this system is for improved performance at higher rpm's. oil can get sludged up and clog the system, or the VTEC solenoid can just go bad. you can always have someone with a scan tool clear the codes to turn off the light, but until the problem is fixed, it will just keep coming back on

Service engine soon light keeps comming on

Have had the car serviced lately? Oil change, tune up, things of that nature? It may be time to do that stuff. Does that car have a "Service Engine Soon" light and a "Check Engine" light? If the car has been serviced recently and the "Service Engine Soon" light is coming on, it's because who ever serviced it, did not reset the light. To reset the light, this works on most GM cars, turn the ignition to the "on" position DO NOT START THE CAR!!! Now within 5 seconds push the gas pedal to the floor and release it 3 times. That should reset the light if that don't work, you may want see what it says in the owners manual. Or you may have to take it to a shop. If the "Check Engine" light is coming on then there is a problem with the vehicle and there should be a "code" in the computer. Most auto parts stores will put a scanner on your car and read the codes for free. Those lights are there for a reason, if ignore them your car will let you down.

I waited a few thousand mile over before i got my oil changed. Got my oil changed and now the check engine light is on

the two are unrelated, this ligh has nothing to do with the oil. read the post for full details.
Why my Check Engine/Service Engines Soon light comes on?
The engine computer or PCM/ECM
All modern vehicles have a computer or the ECM (Electronic Control Module) that controls the operation of the vehicle powertrain (the engine and transmission). The main purpose of this is to keep the engine running at top efficiency with the lowest possible emissions. With constantly growing demands for better fuel economy and new strictest emission regulations it's not very easy to achieve. The engine parameters need to be constantly and precisely adjusted according to various conditions such as speed, load, engine temperature, gasoline quality, ambient air temperature, road conditions, etc. That's why today's cars have much more electronics than in early days - there is a large number of various sensors and other electronic devices that help the vehicle computer or ECM to precisely control the engine and transmission operation and monitor emissions.
The vehicle computer system has self-testing capability. When the computer senses that there is a problem with some of the components it stores the correspondent trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light to tell you that there is a problem and your car needs to be looked at. To properly diagnose what is wrong, you need to take your car to a mechanic or a dealer. The technician at the dealership or a garage will then hook up the scanner to the car computer and retrieve the stored trouble code(s). Then he (she) will look it up in the service manual provided by a car manufacturer. The service manual contains the list of possible codes (about few hundreds) and describes what each code means and what needs to be tested. The code itself doesn't tell exactly what component is defective - it only indicates where to look, what engine parameter is out of normal range. The technician will have to perform further testing to pinpoint a defective part

Service engine soon light

an oil change will not turn the light off, this light means a fault has occurred in the electronic engine/emission controls, the easiest thing to do is go to any Kragen or Autozone part store and have them run a trouble code test,it is free, then post the code(s) back here on Fixya.
