I would shop around,. that price is extremely inflated. im sure you can have this repair initiated for a lesser price. i would defiantly search for a second and third price quote. that's a bit high.

Here's the deal. this particular shop is basically replacing the entire assembly, which will cost you 300 dollars tops. this includes the pump, hanger assembly and strainer. the actual hanger assembly is not need. your hanger assembly should be fine. the only thing you will need to replace is the pump and strainer. not the hanger assembly. this shop is charging you for an unnecessary addition to the repair. Only the pump and strainer is needed in this case. the total price for parts should be no higher than $170.00. if its higher than that, you should take you vehicle to a different shop for a better estimate.

Just to clarify. this repair should only consist of the replacement of the Fuel Pump, Strainer and, the fuel pump tank seal. The total price for parts should not exceed above $170.00. Most labor charges are figured at a rate of 50 to 65 dollars an hour(2 hour minumim). this will bring the total repair price to, in my estimate, $297.00. give or take a few dollars.

One more thing here, the labor shouldn't be all that hard. this is quite easy if the techs know what they are doing. In normal situation, most vehicles will require the lowering of the fuel tank to access the pump assembly. this is not required for your situation. your vehicle has a Access cover under the rear seat, under the carpet. You can simply Release the catch for the back seat and tilt the seat out of the way and, Move the carpet behind the seat that covers the fuel pump access panel. this is much easier and, the pump is easily accessed without removing the actual tank.

I've never worked on a Kia Diesel, but the pump is either on the frame rail or they stuck it in the fuel tank just like on a car.

My 1999 Kia Sportage won't start. I put a new fuel pump in replaced the car battery . Need help please...

Im dealing with a similar situation. But have found that I have no spark. By opening the end of the air intake and giving a little squirt of starter fluid and no start. Opened access to FP and pulled a hose. No fuel. So no fuel no spark. reading lots and lots of forums I have come to the conclusion it is either the Cam or the Crank sensor. The crank sensor is easier to get to and cheaper. I am going to check that first.

99 kia sportage sputtering under acceleration

Hi Missippirebe, I think you should replace the fuel filter and if the problem persists check fuel pump pressure. It should be at around 3.7 bar. Regards John

1999 Kia sportage loosing power under moderate acceleration.

It sounds like a head gasket issue. Do a compression check to see if all cylinders are within specs. If you find there is an issue, decide if it is worth the repair cost. If you choose to repair it you will also want to check for an exhaust leak close to the engine such as flex pipe and also back pressure from a plugged converter. Otherwise you could end up blowing the head gasket again.

Fuel pump is bad. How much to replace?

It depends where you get the pump and where you take it to have it done if you're not doing it yourself. The pump could cost anywhere from $150 - $550. If you take it into a shop to have it done, they could charge you 4 - 8 hours of labor so depending on their labor rate, labor alone could cost you $240 - $800. The gas tank has to be removed in order to replace the pump, that's why the labor would be so high. These cars have a fuel pump fuse and relay so I would definitely spend a little time to check those first before you spend a lot of money replacing the fuel pump itself.

Good Luck!

1999 sportage dies when low on fuel but still plenty of gas....doesn't die when full Rough idle

mcdevito75 here, It could be a dirty screen on the fuel pump itself, or a weak fuel pump. Have your local shop check it out. At the very least have the shop replace the fuel filter.

I need the timing belt replaced on 2000 kia

That depends on if you are replacing it before or after it stops working. The engine is an interference engine and if the timing belt goes out, it could damage the head and cost you around $1500. before it goes out you should be able to get it done for about $500 plus parts.
P.S. get the water pump replaced at the same time for a little extra as long as the front of the engine is being taken apart.
